Baking for balance – healthy bakes to support your wellbeing

Saturday 5th September : 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Greener Kirkcaldy’s Lang Spoon Community Kitchen
£48 – £60
Book now »

In this relaxed and social session, we’ll move away from high-sugar, highly processed bakes and discover the power of slow-release ingredients. We’ll learn how to use wholegrains, nuts, and healthy fats to create kitchen staples that don’t just taste great but help us feel more balanced and energised throughout the day.

The nutrition

We’ll focus on ingredients that are accessible and delicious but work harder for your body.

  • Wholegrains & seeds – for steady energy levels and a happy gut (essential for mood and immunity).
  • Healthy fats (olive oil and nut butters) – for heart health and satisfying snacks that balance blood sugar and keep you fuller for longer.
  • Nutrition rich ingredients – using almonds and seeds for a natural boost of magnesium and calcium.

What we’ll bake

  • A wholegrain seeded loaf – A simple, high-fibre bread that’s much kinder to your digestion than shop-bought loaves.
  • Granola with nuts and seeds – A crunchy, golden breakfast staple that swaps refined oils for heart-healthy extra virgin olive oil.
  • Almond and sunflower seed flapjacks – A chewy, satisfying flapjack that uses nut butter for protein—perfect for beating the 3pm energy slump.

The Lang Spoon Community Kitchen

The Lang Spoon Community Kitchen is part of Greener Kirkcaldy’s community building. We’re based in the heart of Kirkcaldy, close to the High Street and the train and bus station. Find out how to get here.

Our purpose-built training kitchen has eight workstations, purpose-built to replicate the ease and comfort of cooking at home.

Our cookery school is complemented by a productive and climate-friendly garden, where we run volunteer training sessions and grow seasonal herbs, fruit and vegetables to use in our classes and events. We also have a larger community training garden and orchard in Dysart.

We host a wide range of events, courses and workshops on all aspects of food and drink. Both our Community Training Kitchen and Production Kitchen are available for hire too.
