News from Ravenscrag Walled Garden
Ross sent us some photos of the new and transformed soft fruit bed at Ravenscraig Walled Garden. “We decided to transform an old strawberry bed which had been overrun with weeds into a blueberry bed using blueberry plants which had been in pots for some time. The hardest part of the job was getting rid of the weeds, but with the help of Jimmy and Dave we managed to get the job done. Using donated bricks, I was able to form the edges of the new bed. We had to import a large amount of ericaceous compost as the the blueberry and heather plants prefer an acidic soil. When the bed was ready Carol, Alan and I put the plants in place. So far as you can see from the images, the results are looking good, and the plants appear to be thriving.”
