Apple Wassailing at our Community Orchard
Apple Wassailing
Saturday 24 January 2015
1.30 – 3pm
Ravenscraig Walled Garden
Apple wassailing is a traditional celebration with stories, singing and poetry to encourage the good health of apple trees and an apple harvest. Many orchards in Scotland are reviving this ancient tradition. Join us as we start our own wassailing tradition in Kirkcaldy at our community orchard.
Wassailing is different in every orchard but usually includes some simple songs, stories and poems. Apple juice is sprinkled on trees as a form of blessing to awaken them into life in a new year. Greener Kirkcaldy will be joined by storyteller and singer Mrs Mash who will lead wassailers through the orchard with fun and merrymaking for all the family.
Meet at Ravenscraig Walled Garden. The entrance is beside the Dysart gate into Ravenscraig Park. Look for blue metal gates on the main road the park gates.
We’ll also be sharing some apple themed refreshments.Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
This event is free and it would be great if you could let us if know you are coming. Contact us on 01592 858458 or e-mail info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk
