Tips for keeping positive during lockdown
Here are some tips from volunteers:
- Give yourself a walking challenge. Alison’s doing one through the Scottish Women’s Walking Group, and exercising her border collie while she does it. She has also joined a litter picking group which cheers her up when she sees the results.
- Pick up or rediscover a hobby. Sally is sewing and kindly made some facemasks for GK volunteers. She did this in response to seeing disposable masks littering streets, parks and beaches. Sally litter picks on Seafield Beach when she is out getting some exercise too. She also says that keeping in touch with family and friends is really important, and walking for keeping mentally well.
- Another fan of walking as medicine is Lesley M who gets out every day in all weathers. She also recommends being good to yourself, and not beating ourselves up about small things. Doing small random acts of kindness gives so much pleasure to the giver as well as the receiver.
