This workshop is an introduction to baking with wild yeast to create sourdough bread and baking.
Our class is all about getting started with sourdough baking. We’ll discuss the fundamentals of baking with wild yeasts, we’ll look at the methods of creating a sourdough starter and how to look after it. We’ll send you instructions on how to make a starter to bring to the workshop so that we can discuss (but don’t worry we’ll have some pre-made starter for you to use).
The workshop is a practical, hands-on session:
- You’ll bake a loaf using our sourdough starter;
- a sourdough cake.
- And sourdough pizza for lunch.
We’ll also make and taste sourdough fizz and discuss recipes for using the discarded starter.
The workshop lasts for 5 hours as sourdough making is a slow process to allow the natural yeasts to work. There will be plenty of time to discuss, taste and ask questions. We will provide refreshments and lunch
On our informative workshop, you’ll learn some basic principles that you can then use at home to get started with sourdough baking.
We’ll look at the ingredients and techniques – and how to fit sourdough bread making into your life.
The course is suitable for beginners. Please bring some bags to take home your fresh bread and cake.
As we’ll be using wheat flour, this workshop is not suitable for anyone with a gluten allergy. If you have any other dietary requirements, please let us know when filling out the order form.
