Donate your unwanted bicycles to Lang Toun Cycles
Kirkcaldy’s community bike shop Lang Toun Cycles is appealing for donations of unwanted bicycles ahead of the Christmas rush.
Bikes donated to Lang Toun Cycles are refurbished by trained mechanics and resold at affordable prices. Any bikes that can’t be repaired are stripped for spare parts.
Donations help reduce waste by saving bikes from going into landfill, and access to affordable bikes on Kirkcaldy High Street helps more local people get into cycling.
With Christmas quickly approaching, Lang Toun Cycles particularly wants donations of children’s bikes so they can be refurbished and sold over the busy festive period. However, the team will be happy to accept donations of any bicycles.
David Glover, Cycle Workshop and Retail Coordinator at Lang Toun Cycles said: “Most of us have memories of riding a favourite bike as a child. Donating bikes when they are no longer needed means that more kids can have those same experiences.
“We can give bikes that are gathering dust in a shed a new life. We refurbish and carry out full safety checks and offer a quality guarantee on each bike that we sell, so people can be sure they are getting a bike which is great quality as well as good value.
“The shop is fueled by donations from the community and we make use of every bike we receive. We’re very happy to take donations at the shop during opening hours. If people have a few bikes they want to donate we may be able to arrange a collection.”
Lang Toun Cycles is a community bike shop in the heart of Kirkcaldy. It offers cycle servicing and repairs, sales of refurbished bikes, new accessories and e-bikes, an electric bike library scheme, bike maintenance training and volunteering opportunities.
The shop is run by Greener Kirkcaldy as a social enterprise, with all profits invested in getting more people in Kirkcaldy cycling. The team has refurbished nearly 400 bikes since the shop opened in 2019.
