Computer Fix-it Experience
My laptop needed some TLC, so I brought it along to the Computer Fix-it Drop-in in the Greener Kirkcaldy High Street Hub to see what could be done about it.
The main problem was that my laptop was not switching on, and when I did get it switched on, it was not working well at all. It was also overheating.
Firstly, the IT expert opened up the laptop to see why it might be overheating.
Thankfully this problem was resolved quickly. The fan was clogged with fluff which was stopping it from working. Once removed it worked perfectly. I will now regularly dust the fan and ensure that it will not get that clogged again.
Next he looked to see why the laptop wasn’t switching on or working properly – time to switch it on and see what happens next.
Sadly it was discovered that my hard drive needed replacing. Thankfully, the IT expert told me how to get all of my data off the broken hard drive, and what replacement hard drive to buy. I was told that I can bring back the laptop once I have got the parts and if I need any help retrieving my data. And while I was not able to get my laptop fixed on that day, I feel that it is a lot closer to getting fixed now.
The next Computer Fix-it event will be at the High Street Hub will be on Saturday 8th April, 10.30am – 2pm. Drop by with your laptops, tablets, smart phones. Make sure that you get along early a can be very busy.
