What can be recycled in our community building?
Here in Fife we have some fantastic recycling facilities. In 2022, Fife Council became the first local authority in Scotland to start accepting a wider range of plastic. This means we can recycle products including bubble wrap, plastic bags and pet food pouches instead of sending them to landfill.
Watch this video to see how YES Recycling turn plastic waste into eco sheet, a material like plywood.
The ability to recycle a wider range of plastic products has cut out some of the confusion about what can go in our green bins at home. However, there are still different rules in place for different places.
Greener Kirkcaldy’s community building at 8 East Fergus Place and the Lang Toun Cycles Community Bike Shop are commercial properties. That means our bins are different to the ones that you have at home.
One main difference is that we have mixed recycling bins throughout our premises. At home, we divide recycling up into separate bins for plastic and tins and for paper. In our community building we have one bin for all recycling.
We’ve produced a simple poster showing what you can and can’t place in our mixed recycling bins. You can help to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill by following these signs when you visit the building.
Just like at home, you need to empty and wash any food or drink containers before they go into the recycling bin.
Producing less waste is one of the steps we’re taking in our Climate Action Plan. This sets out how we will work towards becoming carbon-neutral by 2030.
