Jam
Duncan and Cameron emailed to say “We are all fine and just made gooseberry and strawberry jam: 500g gooseberries; 500g strawberries; 1 kg sugar; 10 ml water. Put in large pan and heat slowly until the sugar is dissolved. Then bring the mixture to the boil for 2 minutes, turn down, and simmer for 30 mins. Test to see if it is set by putting some jam on a cold saucer and tipping. When it wrinkles turn off the heat, leave for 5 mins, then ladle into sterilized jars and leave to cool 15 mins before putting lids on. We picked gooseberries at Craigencault near the old polytunnel.”
New hobbies
Carol, one of our volunteer Management Committee members has been helping her Mum start a new hobby: making rag dolls out of recycled materials. She is gifting this one to GK. Thank you!
A puzzle
We hope you have been enjoying photos from Alice, one of our Growing and Gardening Volunteers. She has been recording some beautiful images from Ravenscraig Walled Garden. She has a great eye for a photo. In this edition, she showcases images from our biodiversity border. It’s fantastic to see so many insects visiting it. Alice would love to know what the insects are in the photo gallery below. Anyone fancy puzzling them out and letting us know?
