‘Stir up Sunday’ which usually occurs at the end of November is traditionally the time to make a festive pudding. Home cooks would lay aside their usual tasks to make this rich, fruity pudding well in advance to give it to mature.
Get the festive season off to a great start with some Christmas baking at our ‘Stir up’ Saturday workshop, an introduction to baking for the festive season. You will learn some basic recipes that you can adapt at home using a range of techniques.
You will make:
- A traditional Christmas pudding – choose from a range of traditional ingredients to create your own rich and boozy (optional) flavours.
- Shortcrust mincemeat pies – making the pastry and mincemeat from scratch.
- Pistachio and cranberry biscotti – a festive Italian biscuit adding colour and bright flavours.
We’ll have a festive playlist in the background and we’ll provide a light lunch and some warming drinks. There will also be time to discuss, taste and compare notes. You’ll leave inspired and ready to continue baking at home.
This is a hands-on cooking class with lots of hand kneading. All dishes made can be taken away and enjoyed at home. Please bring 2 boxes, a jar and a bag to take home your creations.
This workshop will be led by Jackie Vural, an enthusiastic cook of many cuisines with a passion for breadmaking. Jackie has worked with Greener Kirkcaldy and loves sharing her skills.
The course is suitable for beginners. Some cooking skills are required to enjoy this workshop i.e. basic knife skills and kneading.
We will be using wheat and dairy products in this workshop. If you have any dietary requirements or allergies, or you would like to talk about any of the ingredients we will be using in the workshop, please let us know when you are booking.
This event takes place in our Lang Spoon Community Kitchen in Greener Kirkcaldy’s Community Building. Find out how to get here.
