Hygge – a word in Danish and Norwegian that describes a cosy, contented mood.
Food and cooking are a big part of the Hygge philosophy, especially as we head into colder and darker days. Investing time and energy in homemade and hearty food adds a feeling of Hygge to a gathering around the table. The food itself doesn’t have to be advanced or fancy. If it’s down to earth, it adds to the Hygge rather than distracting from it. You will leave this class with some foodie ideas to bring some Hygge to your home during the Winter months.
You will make:
• Kød og melboller suppe (Meatball and Dumpling soup): This is a comforting vegetable broth filled with meat dumplings and sure to warm you up. A veggie/vegan version will be available.
• Kanelsnegl (cinnamon buns): These are a staple in Denmark, and are enjoyed at any time of the day or year. This recipe lets you bake them to your own preference, whether you like them gooey or crispy.
We will also demonstrate how to make hasselback potatoes with gruyere and rosemary, which is a wonderful warming side dish for any main course and is especially good at this time of year.
This is a hands-on cooking class. All food made can be taken away and enjoyed at home. Please remember to bring your own containers to take home your creations.
Please wear appropriate clothing for a kitchen environment e.g. closed-toed shoes. Aprons will be provided.
If you have any dietary requirements or allergies, or you would like to talk about any of the ingredients we will be using in the workshop, please let us know when you are booking. We plan to use.
This workshop will be led by Kat Riach. Kat runs her own bakery at Lochaber Farm. She is a passionate breadmaker and loves sharing her skills with others. Kat also works with Greener Kirkcaldy.
This event takes place in our Lang Spoon Community Kitchen in Greener Kirkcaldy’s Community Building. Find out how to get here.
