Africa is home to hundreds of different cultural and ethnic groups and its’ diverse food is reflected in many different local culinary traditions.
In this class, we will be making dishes from three different cultural areas of Africa. All the dishes contain fresh ingredients connected to the land as is traditional in Africa and are full of big, bold flavours.
You will make:
- North African soup – Think of this soup like a minestrone but with lots of bold North African flavours. The addition of Rose Harrisa adds real depth to the flavour.
- Jollof chicken pilau curry – traditionally from the countries within West Africa, this is a hearty one-pot meal. We will make salted cucumber to serve alongside this.
We will also demonstrate a dish from Southeast Africa making a typical Ugandan street food snack – Rolex (or rolled eggs).
This workshop will be led by Kat Riach. Kat runs her own bakery at Lochaber Farm. She is a passionate breadmaker and loves sharing her skills with others. Kat also works with Greener Kirkcaldy.
This is a hands-on cooking class where you will be touching, tasting, and cooking food. Drinks and snacks will be served on arrival. Please bring containers so you take the food you make home.
If you have any dietary requirements or allergies, or if you would like to talk about any of the ingredients we will be using in the workshop, please let us know when you are booking.
This event takes place in our Lang Spoon Community Kitchen in Greener Kirkcaldy’s Community Building. Find out how to get here.
