Celebrating our incredible board members: Ian and Pat

At Greener Kirkcaldy, we are lucky to have the support of 120 volunteers — people who give their time, energy and expertise to help us achieve our aim of making Kirkcaldy a better place to live and work. We are governed by a dedicated group of 12 volunteer trustees who provide leadership and guidance.
Among this amazing team, two long-serving members stand out for their extraordinary dedication: Ian Stirton and Pat Crosbie. Collectively they have given almost 2,000 hours to Greener Kirkcaldy and they have played a key role in shaping our organisation into what it is today. We are grateful for their leadership, support and ongoing commitment — and we celebrate everything they bring to our community.
Ian Stirton
This year marks Ian’s 12th year as our Treasurer, during which he has generously given over 1,200 hours of his time to support our work.
Ian has been a cornerstone of our charity’s growth and sustainability. When it comes to Treasurers, Ian is the holy grail. His financial expertise and calm, steady head were instrumental in the complex purchase of our community building. Every year, he somehow manages to make sense of our annual accounts – no small feat with over 30 different funders. We’re convinced he actually enjoys it.
Ian’s wisdom, patience and kindness have been a lifeline for our Office Manager and new Chief Executive. His guidance, experience and reassurance made a huge difference in navigating a period of transition and continued growth. Ian genuinely cares, is never too busy for a chat and he always has a joke up his sleeve to lift spirits.
Beyond the board, Ian is always willing to roll up his sleeves to help Greener Kirkcaldy. He has sat on countless interview panels, stood on rainy high streets to consult with our community and is the first to volunteer to help at events and open days.
Ian has helped steer Greener Kirkcaldy from a small grassroots group to a thriving organisation with over 40 staff and several successful social enterprises. He is a dependable, trusted advisor, a passionate advocate for our mission and a true volunteer hero.
Pat Crosbie
Pat Crosbie has been a volunteer with Greener Kirkcaldy for seven years, during which she has given over 700 hours of her time. As Vice Chair of our board, Pat has brought calm, steady leadership through times of change — including stepping up when our Chair had to step down unexpectedly.
Pat’s impact has been huge. She led efforts to recruit five new trustees last year, helping to make our board more diverse and resilient. For the past seven years, she has also chaired two key sub-groups and acted as our Staff Liaison Officer. She’s sifted through countless job applications, supported recruitment panels and welcomed new staff with care and encouragement.
Pat is more than a board member — she’s a true champion of our values. She never misses an opportunity to support our events and volunteers, and she was a vital support for our new Chief Executive, always offering a listening ear and steady advice during a time of transition.
Passionate, committed, and endlessly capable, Pat exemplifies what it means to be a volunteer.
