Pickles and summer ferments at Ravenscraig Walled Garden

Join us for a hands-on pickling and fermenting workshop set in the beautiful surroundings of our community training garden. We’ll explore how simple, seasonal ingredients can become vibrant, nourishing ferments and discuss the flavours, techniques and wellbeing benefits of lacto fermentation and pickling.
We’ll work outdoors if the weather allows, or in our cosy on-site cabin if not.
You’ll learn how fermentation works as we prepare pickled courgettes with herbs and make lacto‑fermented carrots and tomatoes, using fresh produce and seasonal herbs from the garden. Along the way, we’ll taste a range of fermented foods, talk about how to introduce them into everyday meals, and explore why they’re so good for our gut health and overall wellbeing.
You’ll head home with:
- Your own jars of fermented carrots and tomatoes and pickled courgettes
- Clear recipes and guidance so you can keep experimenting at home
- Inspiration for using seasonal veg in new and delicious ways
No experience is needed – just curiosity, a love of good food, and a willingness to try something new in our lovely garden setting.
