News from Ravenscraig Walled Garden
A message from Carol:
“Hope you’re all getting out for some exercise in this nice weather. The garden is missing the weekly visits of waterers, weeders and wood choppers!
Our little pond that went in at the beginning of the year has had lots of attention, mostly from the local birds but we’ve also spotted 2 tadpoles! Not sure how they got there but maybe came along with the plants George brought from his pond. The bug hotel has also had a few bees checking it out and now that some of the flowers are out the butterflies are visiting.
Next month the garlic should be ready and already it’s looking pretty good, it stores well so there will be plenty for everyone once we’re able to open up again. I’ll let you know what’s happening in the polytunnel next time, stay safe”. Carol
A message from Gemma:
Hi everyone,
I hope you and your family are all well and keeping safe. I have spoken to quite a few of you now over the phone and through messages; which has been great! I was so pleased to catch up with many of you and will be giving you all a call again soon. If you would like added in to the phone call list then just let us know and I’ll phone you for a wee blether next time.
Before we closed the garden I was sure I saw signs of a bunny in residence, but had never caught sight of it. Well, I was in on Sunday, taking pictures of our orchard and there he was; a tan brown bunny basking in the sun surrounded in apple blossom. So, being the budding photographer desperate for a good shot, I stopped still and tried to get my camera ready. But, he heard me and was off in a flash! I ran up and down the length of the Orchard trying to get my photo. But, he was too fast for me and disappeared into the allotments. It was only when I stopped and looked I realised I had amassed a rather large audience of allotment holders! I’m sure they were all wondering what on earth I was up to…..Anyway, I didn’t get the shot, but I am pretty sure he is living in here. Take care and see you all soon”. Gemma
Carol also took a short walk through the orchard last week. The apple trees are blossoming beautifully. Watch this short video of her walk.
