Join us for the launch of Fife Roots

Climate Action Fife’s Fife Roots campaign aims to share resources and advice to help people eat more local and seasonal veg. There will also be special events relating to the theme over the next 12 months. The campaign aims to develop partnerships with local organisations, businesses and people to make local and seasonal vegetables more accessible to everyone.
We are hosting a special sitting at our Community Meal at 6pm on Wednesday 21st May. EATS Rosyth will also have a launch evening at their Friday evening meal at 5pm on Friday 23rd May. People can enjoy a delicious meal, learn more about the campaign and how they can get involved.
Greener Kirkcaldy’s Community Chef Tony Perkins and Communications and Events Coordinator Andrea Harrower will talk about what the campaign aims to do. They will share a preview of what people can expect to see through the campaign such as recipes, resources, blogs and videos.
This date also marks the launch of the campaign webpage on the Climate Action Fife website.
Climate Action Fife’s Project Manager Ea O’Neill said: “We are excited to launch the next Climate Action Fife campaign to encourage more Fifers eating local and seasonal veg.”
“We developed the campaign through a series of workshops with local people. This highlighted that access to food, knowledge and skills were the key issues people wanted to address. We hope to tackle these areas through the Fife Roots campaign.”
The longer food spends in storage and transit, the higher the chance of it spoiling and becoming waste. Buying locally and in season can help reduce the risk of food becoming waste before it gets to the shelves.
It also reduces the amount of energy used to transport, refrigerate and store the food and less packaging is required to keep it fresh, so there is a much lower environmental impact as well as lower greenhouse gas emissions.
