Greener Kirkcaldy’s treasurer nominated for national award

Our fantastic Treasurer Ian Stirton has been named as a finalist at this year’s Scottish Charity Awards. Run annually by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, the Scottish Charity Awards celebrate the best of Scotland’s voluntary sector.
This year’s shortlist includes 35 individuals and organisations from charities and voluntary groups across the country. The winners will be announced on Thursday 11th June at an awards ceremony in Glasgow hosted by broadcaster Sally Magnusson.
Ian has served as Greener Kirkcaldy’s Treasurer for 13 years, providing calm advice and clear thinking alongside timely humour. When he joined, the charity had no reserves, a handful of staff and unstable funding. By moving from a culture of reacting to risk to responsible financial planning, Ian has allowed the charity to grow to meet the needs of its community.
Today, Greener Kirkcaldy employs 43 permanent staff, works with 120 volunteers and has an annual budget of £2.4 million. Ian played a key role in this transformation, including securing multi-year funding, supporting the purchase of our community building at 8 East Fergus Place and ensuring vital services continued through the pandemic.
Anna Fowlie, Chief Executive, SCVO said: “Across Scotland and beyond, voluntary organisations are making an extraordinary difference, and the breadth and depth of their impact never fail to inspire. Our 2026 finalists epitomise this.
“Our voluntary sector is truly essential to Scottish society – we see the positive impact organisations and individuals make in communities across the country every single day.
“Best of luck to all of our finalists, and I look forward to celebrating with them in June as we highlight the phenomenal work each and every one of them contributes to.”
The full shortlist for 2026 includes a number of charities including Fife Pride volunteer Jenny Black and Crail Community Partnership.
