Greener Kirkcaldy Volunteers Scoop Award
We’re celebrating a win at the Fife Voluntary Action awards last Thursday after a busy year for the team and volunteers.
The Ravenscraig Community Orchard volunteers won the Volunteer Team awards, which recognises a group “who are doing or have done exceptional work for the benefit of the community”. There were 20 other nominees so we’re really pleased to have won. Our Development Worker Fraser Nicol said “We’ve always known how hard-working our volunteers are, but it’s great to receive this award and really have their dedication recognised more widely.”
The award winning volunteer group have dedicated hundreds of hours since May 2012 to turn formerly derelict land into a community orchard. You can see photos of the project and its progress on our Facebook page.
We were also nominated, but narrowly pipped to the post in three other categories – Best Individual Volunteer, the Active Organisation award and Green Organisation award.
