Did you know that humans have been fermenting food for over nine thousand years? This ancient practice has developed over the years. Today it can be used to reduce the risk of diseases and enhance your digestive system.
In this short workshop at our Lang Spoon Community Kitchen you will learn all about nourishing ferments and happy gut health. Through discussion and hands-on activities, we’ll explore how fermentation works and look at the difference between probiotics and prebiotics. We’ll also discover easy ways to include fermented foods in your diet, as well as their benefits to your health and well-being.
We will make:
Sauerkraut – fermented shredded cabbage – and share recipes for similar ferments like kimchi
We will introduce you to SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast) and taste a homemade kombucha fermented drink.
The course is suitable for beginners and people with some experience interested in trying out something new.
This is a hands-on cooking class. All dishes made can be taken away and enjoyed at home.
This workshop will be led by Jackie Vural, an enthusiastic cook of many cuisines with a passion for baking. Jackie has worked with Greener Kirkcaldy for many years and loves sharing her skills.
Some cooking skills are required to enjoy this workshop i.e. basic knife skills. Please bring some containers to take home your food. If you have any dietary requirements or allergies, or you would like to talk about any if the ingredients we will be using in the workshop, please let us know when you are booking. All dishes made can be taken away and enjoyed at home.
