
Kelpies to Charlestown cycling adventure (using the Inner Forth Cycle Route)

Join us for a brand-new themed cycle ride celebrating the stunning Inner Forth coastline! Starting at the iconic Kelpies and finishing in Charlestown, this ride offers a unique way to explore the natural beauty and heritage of the area.
To make the journey more accessible, we’ll be using the Inner Forth Bike Bus, which stops at various points along the Inner Forth Cycle Route. This means you can choose to ride the full route or just a section. Perfect for all levels of cyclists.
The Inner Forth Cycle Route is managed by Climate Forth and offers a great opportunity to discover new parts of the route for future adventures.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just looking for a scenic day out, come and be part of this celebration of our coastline!
Route Information
- Distance – very long
- Hills – one long hill
- Surfaces –mainly surfaced, with some section on compacted earth. This would is not suitable for skinny tyres. Hybrid, mountain bikes, and gravel-style bikes are needed.
- Route – mainly on traffic-free paths, with some on quiet roads.
We will carry out basic bike checks at the start of the ride.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Inner forth bus:
Bus leaves Charlestown 09:50
Arrive at Kelpies 10:40
Cycle (including breaks and stops)
Start at Kelpies 11:00
Arrive back in Charlestown 14:00
Getting to Charlestown
The closest train station is Inverkeithing. There will be a led cycle to Charlestown leaving from Inverkeithing Rail Station at 8:40am. Please let us know in the booking form if you wish to join us for this.
Alternatively you can cycle there on your own via our suggested route on Komoot or find your own way there.
It is roughly a 40 minute cycle from Inverkeithing Rail Station to Charlestown.

Additional Information
Please note that this bike ride is weather-dependent.
Participants should be able to cycle for 4 hrs at a leisurely pace.
Please ensure you bring enough water and snacks with you. You will need to bring a packed lunch. There may be an opportunity to stop for a tea or a coffee.
Please make sure your bike is roadworthy before coming and wear appropriate clothes for the weather. Remember to also bring your own water and snacks. There are some sections that will be on unpaved surfaces.

The event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community.
Our booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example, your name).
