Climate justice – think global, act local, all together – Our Annual Gathering and AGM

This year our Annual Gathering is all about climate justice and how we can all act together locally to move towards global change.
We look forward to welcoming our guest speakers Dr Mike Robinson OBE, Chief Executive, Royal Scottish Geographical Society and Zarina Ahmad, Co-director, Women’s Environmental Network (WEN) & Climate Change Communicator and PhD Researcher at University of Manchester.
We will also be at the midway point of our strategic plan so there will an opportunity to review what we have achieved and share your ideas of what we should focus on for the next two and a half years.
The event will take place in the Beveridge Suite of the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy.
Our Speakers
Dr Mike Robinson OBE, FRSE – Chief Executive, Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS)
Mike has been Chief Executive of RSGS since 2008, overseeing the RSGS move to Perth and rejuvenating the charity’s purpose, positioning and profile – and that of geography and geographers in Scottish civic society too.
Through this role – and over the course of the last 25 years – Mike has been instrumental in informing policy through joined-up, collaborative action, particularly in sustainability and climate change. In 2022 Mike was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Stirling for dedicating his life to campaigning for the environment, in 2023 awarded an OBE for his services to climate change education and in 2025 made a Fellow of The Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Zarina Ahmad – Co-director, Women’s Environmental Network (WEN) & Climate Change Communicator and PhD Researcher at University of Manchester
One of the mighty women on Woman’s Hour’s 2020 Our Planet Power List, Zarina founded the Ethnic Minority Environmental Network leading the charge for increasing participation in environmentalism in Scotland. Zarina has dedicated herself to creating pathways for under-represented groups to belong to the environmental sector -increasing not only a diversity of people, but a diversity of ideas by providing training and creating learning spaces.
Zarina is a researcher on a number of food justice projects, with the Just FACT programme, Nourish and University of Glasgow.
Zarina has created spaces for racialised marginalised women’s voices to be heard on climate issues, Climate Sisters who exhibit their creative work at various venues such as the Glasgow Science Centre, the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Zarina’s accolades include recognition by Edinburgh Science Institute as an inspirational woman who has made a significant impact in STEM featuring her in 2021’s festival and is the recipient of the coveted Emma Goldman Award for her feminist work on climate justice and inequalities across Europe.
