Here’s the next installment of our monthly blog showcasing the amazing work that our advisors do every month.

In February, our advisors:

• Visited 146 homes (a total of 1,509 homes since April 2019)
• Gave advice to 224 people at talks and events (1,412 since April 2019)
• Supported 42 people with Utility debt advice (397 since April 2019)
• Installed energy-efficient measures in 81 households (674 since April 2019)

Here’s how our energy advisors supported Debbie:

Tenants Debbie and her husband were finding it difficult to keep warm in their home. They both had health issues that meant they needed their home to be warmer than usual, but were struggling to budget on low incomes. They also found it hard to understand the language used on their energy bills and didn’t know how to use their heating properly.

We visited Debbie and her husband in their home, showed them how to use their heating controls and explained what all of the charges on their energy bills meant. We also helped them apply for the Warm Home Discount – getting them an extra £140 a year towards their heating costs – and installed warm thermal curtains and energy saving LED bulbs in their home. We gave them an electric blanket to help keep them warm on cold nights.

We also referred Debbie and her husband to our partners Citizens Advice and Rights Fife – they did a benefit check and helped them apply for Personal Independence Payment, which they were later awarded.

After our visit, Debbie and her husband told us they were much more confident managing their energy use and were very happy they could keep their home warm affordably.
