Celebrating community with Pride

Fife Pride took place on the 29th of July in Kirkcaldy. There was a wonderful atmosphere as usual. Hundreds of people came together to celebrate Pride and its values. Many organisations brought stalls, including Greener Kirkcaldy and Cosy Kingdom. These organisations all came along to share information on the services they provide to the community. Each organisation had a different area of the community they worked with. These areas ranged from the elderly to those with additional support needs.
Below is information on some of the groups there on the day.
Restoration Fife
Restoration Fife is a recovery community. They provide activities for those recovering from substance abuse. They had information on referrals to their service and the work they do for the community. This included information on overdose kits and showed two pieces of equipment used for people who may have overdosed. They also discussed training they can offer for using the equipment shown. They also provide health checks and run group activities to help those in recovery be a part of something important and get out of the house.
Andy’s Man Club
Andy’s Man Club provide talking groups for men and their mental health. They have over 200 talking groups in the UK alone, 13 of which are in Fife. These groups ask 3 main questions for the week: general questions about the wellbeing of the members and how their week is going. Andy’s man club is a welcoming place for all men who are struggling with their mental health. Members are not required to refer to the service. They are also not obligated to speak at their first time attending.
Fighting with Pride
Fighting with Pride supports veterans affected by the ban on LGBT+ personnel serving in the Armed Forces before the year 2000. They help veterans be themselves and help those forced from service recover. They do this by building connections and pointing veterans to the right organisations to get the support they need. They believe that veteran-to-veteran support is vital. Being on the same level of understanding is important in seeking help.
Nourish Support Centre
Nourish Support Centre were also at the event. Nourish is a registered charity supporting families with additional support needs in Fife. They provide a range of groups and activities for families and children. They also offer support with food and clothing for those who are struggling financially. They can also signpost you to organisations that can provide you with the support you need.
The power of unity
Each organisation with a stall at Fife Pride carried vital messages and services they can provide for the LGBTQ+ community. It highlights the diverse and powerful voices advocating for equality, understanding, and support in our community. These organisations, through their presence, showed the power of unity. They also showed a shared commitment. The commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of LGBT+ people everywhere!
