Greener Kirkcaldy to host Press Pause® workshop exploring community-led tourism

We are inviting local businesses, community groups, and residents to take part in a SCOTO Press Pause® Workshop on Thursday 27th November. This workshop explores how community-led tourism can support Kirkcaldy’s sustainability, identity and economic resilience.
Press Pause® is a nationally recognised programme developed by SCOTO CIC – the Scottish Community Tourism Network – to help communities rethink the role of tourism in their local areas. The interactive workshop links tourism, climate action, and community cohesion and has already been delivered in over 50 communities across Scotland, following its successful pilot on the North Coast 500.
Greener Kirkcaldy is delivering the Kirkcaldy workshop in partnership with Welcome to Fife and Fife Council, as part of the Fife Tourism Climate Action Plan (pdf).
Participants will explore what’s currently working in Kirkcaldy’s tourism offer, what could be done differently, and how local people and businesses can work together to create meaningful visitor experiences. Key topics include destination competence – understanding what’s within the community’s control – and place branding, focusing on how Kirkcaldy is perceived and how the town can shape its own story.
Following the workshop, attendees will receive a detailed report with recommendations and examples from other areas, as well as an invitation to a follow-up session to develop a shared activity plan.
Lauren Brook, Greener Kirkcaldy’s Chief Executive said: “We’re delighted to bring Press Pause® to Kirkcaldy. This is a valuable opportunity to come together and reflect on how tourism can work for everyone – supporting local enterprise, celebrating our place and contributing to a more sustainable future.”
Ea O’Neill, Community Engagement Team Manager and Climate Action Fife project manager said: “We promote climate friendly holidays by helping local people make informed choices about their holiday destinations and travel. We look forward to working with local businesses and community groups to showcase the great experiences and nature right on our doorstep!”
“We hope the event will spark new ideas and collaborations between local business and community interests, laying the groundwork for future initiatives that strengthen the town’s visitor appeal while keeping community wellbeing, climate and nature at its heart.”
