Lang Toun Cycles’ essential bike maintenance workshop

In this class we will cover some of the basics of bike maintenance – fixing a flat, M-checks, basic brake and gear adjustment and cleaning correctly.
- Fixing a flat tyre or tube is an invaluable skill to have whether fixing a bike on your own bike whilst out riding or to help a friend or family member out and to keep them pedalling.
- An M-check is a useful pre-ride safety check to flag up any issues whilst you are riding and to alert you to when servicing may be required
- Brakes and gears are the main component groups of your bike that keep it running well and to get you where you want to be.
During this session we will identify the names of the bike parts that we will be exploring, before tackling wheel removal to allow you to learn how to remove your tyre and tube, to then refit these parts and also to identify common causes of punctures and to patch an inner tube.
An M-check will be demonstrated on our workshop bikes or your own should you wish- this allows you to gain a piece of mind before riding- tyre pressure check-brakes/gears and handle bars etc.
Finally we will cover a how to tackle basic brake and gear adjustments and component checks to highlight common issues, such as brake pad wear and chain wear.
This session is delivered by Lang Toun Cycles’ experienced cycle mechanics, anyone can register for this course. No previous experience is necessary.
