Other Ways to Win: Talk and cycle with Lee Craigie
On Monday 11th December Greener Kirkcaldy had the privilege of hosting cyclist and author Lee Craigie for a talk at Lang Toun Cycles Community Bike Shop. She introduced us to her new book and entertained us with her tales of adventure. Before her talk, we led her and fellow cyclists for a short ride around Kirkcaldy.
Born in Glasgow, Craigie grew up in a sporting family. These early experiences led to her studying outdoor education as her first degree. She worked as a technical mountain guide, before training as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. She started mountain biking in 2006 and represented Great Britain in 2011 and 2012 at the World Mountain Bike Championships.
Lee’s talk reminded us that ‘winning’ is more than just coming first in a race. We can all push and challenge ourselves. A 10-mile bike ride for one person could be the equivalent of cycling from Canada to Mexico for another. Does that matter? What else can we learn from pushing ourselves and how we can learn more from our experiences?
Lee concluded that by moving slower we can connect more with nature and ourselves.
