Jackie’s Community Food Work Celebrated at Annual Environmental Health Forum

The REHIS Annual Environmental Health Forum took place in Glasgow City Chambers this year. The event brought together Environmental Health professionals from across Scotland for discussions, talks and networking. This year’s theme was Shaping Scotland’s Environmental Health Profession in a Changing Climate. 

Our Food Team Senior Development Worker, Jackie Arreaza, was awarded the President’s Award at the forum on behalf of Greener Kirkcaldy. This is a testament to the way she delivers her training and the positive impact this has on communities in Fife. Since working at Greener Kirkcaldy, I have seen that she always makes any training session welcoming, inclusive and accessible to all. It’s lovely to see that recognised. 

Jackie has spent years building relationships with our volunteers, supporting groups in our community and bringing her passion for reducing food waste into everything she does. From certified training courses to cooking courses that boost confidence, Jackie is friendly, supportive and knowledgeable.

The letter our team received alongside the invitation to join the REHIS Annual Environmental Health Forum reflects the fantastic work that Jackie does as part of the Greener Kirkcaldy team.  

“The REHIS President’s Award is awarded to an individual and/or organisation that has significantly contributed to the improvement and protection of health and well-being in Scotland through their involvement in the Institute’s Training activities. 

The Institute’s Council has been impressed by the way your organisation supports those who need it most. As a REHIS Training Centre since 2021, you deliver Food Hygiene, Food and Health, and Cooking Skills courses, while also providing a range of cooking workshops, courses, and community meals through the Lang Spoon Community Kitchen. These initiatives help people develop their cooking skills, reduce food waste, and enjoy local, seasonal food. 

This award is to recognise the team at Greener Kirkcaldy for their dedication and commitment in making such a positive difference to your community.”
