Winter Solstice Walk
Starting at the ‘Heart’ of Kirkcaldy on the Esplanade, we will walk along the beach as the sun rises on 2026’s shortest day. Weather permitting, we’ll get views of the sun rising above the sea on the day of the Winter Solstice. Take a bit of quiet time away from the Festive preparations to enjoy the beauty of the beach and the sounds of waves and seabirds. At Seafield, we’ll have a hot drink, then walkers may return together along the Esplanade to our starting point, or continue on the coast path independently.
Participants should be able to walk 2-3 miles at a leisurely pace. The route is mostly flat, on pavement, path and sand. May be wet sand / rocky in places, and some areas of shallow water on the beach but diversions will be possible for those without suitable footwear.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that dogs are not permitted on this walk. Contact us if you would like any further information.
Additional Information
Please note that this event is weather-dependent. In the event of forecast adverse weather, Greener Kirkcaldy staff will decide whether to go ahead with the walk the day before. We will contact attendees via phone and email if the walk cannot go ahead.
Dress for the outdoors – wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Bringing water and light snacks for young kids is advised as well. As this event is organised with children in mind, dogs are not permitted.

The event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community.
Our booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example, your name).

Accessibility information
There are accessible parking spaces on site.
The route can be adapted for wheelchairs / pushchairs, using the Esplanade and pavements rather than the beach. Please contact us if you require more information about accessibility along the route.
