Nordic walking
Nordic walking has more benefits than walking, it brings many more muscles into play than ordinary walking – your chest, arms, shoulders, abs and other core muscles are all involved as well as your legs. Nordic walking poles propel you forwards helping you walk faster, raising your heart rate and expending energy.
Join us at our Nordic walking taster session where a qualified instructor will show you the basics of the Nordic walking technique, preparing you to join future practice walks. Nordic walking poles will be provided.
Using the correct technique and poles will help you target all major upper and lower body muscles with every step. This in turn improves posture, and body tone and speeds up metabolism. It also reduces the strain on the back, neck and shoulders too.
Part of our Communities Connected programme.
Additional Information
Please note that this walk is weather-dependent. In the event of forecast adverse weather, Greener Kirkcaldy staff will decide whether to go ahead with the walk the day before. We will contact attendees via phone and email if the walk cannot go ahead.
Please wear flexible walking shoes or trainers. Hillwalking and hiking boots are not recommended. Prepare for outdoor weather. Try not to carry a rucksack as it hampers learning.
You should have a reasonable level of fitness and be able to walk 1 mile. Regular Nordic walking can improve fitness, aid balance and increase coordination, posture and strength.
The session will last for 1 hour 30 minutes.
Remember to also bring your own water and snacks if you feel you need them.
