Kirkcaldy Community Greenspace Strategy

How could Kirkcaldy’s parks, streets, neighbourhoods and waterfront become greener, better connected, more resilient and better places for people and nature?

We are working with communities across Kirkcaldy to develop a Community Greenspace Strategy for the town.

Local people will be at the heart of developing the strategy. We want to hear what people value about Kirkcaldy’s greenspaces, what could be better, where there are opportunities for change and what ideas communities would like to see taken forward.

We’ll bring those ideas together to identify practical opportunities to improve existing greenspaces, create new ones and strengthen the connections between them – building a long-term strategy that reflects local priorities and can make a real difference across Kirkcaldy.

What will the strategy look at?

Together, we’ll explore opportunities to:

• Improve parks and other community greenspaces
• Bring more trees, planting and nature into our streets and public spaces
• Create better places for people to meet, play and spend time outdoors
• Improve walking, wheeling and cycling connections
• Help Kirkcaldy respond to the impacts of climate change
• Make green spaces more accessible and welcoming
• Encourage people to spend more time in the town
• Support tourism and the wider regeneration of Kirkcaldy

The final strategy won’t just set out ideas. It will identify priority projects and what is needed to make them happen.

Starting with the Waterfront

We’re starting with the waterfront. During 2026, we’ll work with local people, community groups and organisations to explore how public spaces in this area could be used in different ways.

This work is taking place alongside Fife Council’s Town Centre & Waterfront Development Framework. We’ll work closely with Fife Council so that the two projects inform and strengthen each other, while ensuring that community priorities are at the centre.

Then we’ll look town-wide

In 2027, we will look across the whole town, including:

• Major parks
• Town centre and neighbourhood greenspaces
• Green connections
• Walking, wheeling and cycling routes

We’ll work with communities across Kirkcaldy to understand what matters in different neighbourhoods and where people see opportunities for improvement. This will lead to a town-wide Community Greenspace Strategy, setting out priorities for the short, medium and longer term.

Your ideas are key

This isn’t a consultation on a finished strategy. We want communities to help develop it with us. We’ll be talking and listening to people throughout, from the first ideas through to identifying priorities and projects.

Alongside open events and activities, we’ll work directly with communities and groups across Kirkcaldy, including making a particular effort to hear from people who don’t always get the opportunity to take part in consultations.

We want to know:

• What do you value about Kirkcaldy’s greenspaces?
• What could be better?
• Where could we create more space for people, nature and climate resilience?
• What ideas would you like to see taken forward?
• What would make Kirkcaldy a greener, more resilient and more welcoming town?
