DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the 15th May. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nThe tradition of bread making is common to all cuisines around the world from simple flat breads to rich sweet breads. In this workshop\, join our Community Chef Iain to learn how to make delicious\, specialized breads. \nThe class will start with making dough\, then progress onto turning it into stuffed paratha from Indian\, luxurious focaccia bread with various classic toppings from Italy and Maneesh\, a Middle Eastern bread topped with sesame seeds and herbs. You’ll also make a marmalade and malt loaf bread and butter pudding – a great way to use up leftover bread. You’ll leave the workshop with finished breads and dough to practice on at home. \nThe course is suitable for beginners. Please bring a bag to take home your creations. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nAs part of our regular workshops for cooks interested in exploring how to switch from meat and poultry in their diet to plant-based ingredients more often\, this class will focus on Mexican food. \nThe Mayan and Aztec cultures have had maize\, beans and squashes at the heart of their diet for thousands of years (known as the three sisters). Pulses are also very sustainable and recognised as a “super food” so we will look at ways of using different beans and pulses in our diets. The course is hands-on and all food prepared at the workshop can be easily recreated at home for family or friends to dig into. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nThis workshop will be led by Iain Mclellen\, Greener Kirkcaldy’s Community Chef and is part of a new programme to help bring success to your home cooking. \nWe’ll be learning the basics of Italian cookery with demonstrations and practical exercises working with fresh pasta\, making cut and filled pastas and showing the simplicity of cooking with fresh pasta. \nWe’ll also be cooking risotto and making arancini from risotto\, as well as making and cooking fresh gnocchi and showing how to use gnocchi in different ways. \nCome along to learn new skills and get an understanding of how basic skills can be used to create many different dishes. \nYou’ll be making food to take home – please bring containers to take home your food. We’re offering all of these in a fun and friendly environment! \nThis week we’ll be making pizza and cookies. We’ll be cooking everything from scratch using fresh ingredients. In the workshop you will learn the basics of making a good stock that will add depth and flavour to a range of dishes (vegetable or meat stock option); use a stock to make a seasonal soup; followed by learning how to use stock in gravies\, sauces and jus. You’ll leave inspired and ready to experiment at home. \nChoice of soup to make – Smokey Cullen Skink or White bean and Truffle Oil. \nDemonstration and practical exercise of “Mother Sauces”- Bechamel\, Veloute\, Espagnol\, Tomato and Hollandaise. \nAt the end of the class participants with have stocks\, soups and sauces to takeaway. DESCRIPTION:This workshop is an introduction to Scandinavian baking with a sweet yeasted dough and a traditional crispbread. \nWe’ll make fragrant Scandinavian style cinnamon buns to have for fika (afternoon tea) and a multi seeded rye and oat crispbread to eat with hummus or cheese. \nOn our fun and informative workshop you’ll learn some basic recipes that you can then adapt at home to create a variety of options. \nWe’ll look at the ingredients and techniques – and how to fit baking into your life. \nThe course is hands-on – we’ll make our enriched dough and then shape and create it into cinnamon buns. DESCRIPTION:The Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Saturday 25 January. It falls during the Spring Festival in China which runs from 25 January to 4 February. \nChinese food covers a range of regions\, textures and flavours. Jenny Thomson from Courses for Cooks will be teaching you to cook some traditional dishes packed with a taste of China. \nWe’ll be making the following dishes: \nSpicy Soup with Spring Onions (Vegetarian) \nSzechuan Pork or Tofu (Veggie/Vegan) \nChinese Style Kale (Vegetarian) \nAll dishes are gluten-free and we’ll also be serving rice with the above. \nThe workshop will be led by an experienced chef with plenty of time to discuss tips compare notes too. SUMMARY:Food Works! Training and Employability programme
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to gain experience in food and cooking\, and improve your progress into training\, education\, volunteering or employment? \nIn partnership with BRAG Enterprise Ltd.\, our next Food Works! programme starts on Wednesday 21st August 2019 11 am – 4 pm at Greener Kirkcaldy’s Lang Spoon Community Kitchen\, Kirkcaldy \nThe programme will run 1 day a week over a 7-week period. Every week we’ll have a practical cooking session where you will learn and develop lots of basic skills and techniques covering entry-level food skills. We’ll also help you improve your employability skills with the opportunity to gain accredited qualifications with support from BRAG and Fife Council Community Food Team. We’ll work with a professional chef from Fife College and access support from a Fife Training and Employability Consortium key worker. \n11am – 1 pm: Food and Cooking Skills \n1 pm – 2 pm: Lunch \n2 pm – 4 pm: Employability skills \nFood Works! is a Training and Employability project running in Kirkcaldy\, in partnership with BRAG (Benarty Regeneration Action Group) Enterprises Limited\, a social enterprise based in central Fife and Greener Kirkcaldy\, and funded by the Fairer Fife Fund. \nWho can apply?\nSchool leavers and anyone who is long term unemployed\, in need of work experience\, new skills or training to get back into the job market\,  as well as people who may have other barriers to employment such as mental health. \nHow to apply?\nContact Jackie Arreaza for an informal chat – email jackiea@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk  or call 01592 858458.
