SUMMARY:Taste of freedom - cook smart\, spend smart
DESCRIPTION:Join our Community Food Team for a four-part workshop\, where you will learn how to cook healthy and affordable meals\, make the most of the food you buy\, and effectively manage your energy use and bills. \nThe course is suitable for beginners and aimed at young adults aged 16-25 who are leaving home for the first time – whether heading to college\, university\, or their first home. \nWe will cover food shopping\, meal planning\, cooking skills\, food storage and using leftovers\, managing household bills and budgeting\, and safety and energy saving in the kitchen. \nEach session of the 4-week block will include practical cooking activities\, with the group cooking and enjoying a tasty dinner together. You will leave each session with new skills\, practical recipes\, and a full stomach. \nWe are running this fun four-part Thursday evening course once over the summer\, starting in July and finishing in August. Participants are expected to commit to attending all four sessions. \nThe Lang Spoon Community Kitchen\nThe Lang Spoon Community Kitchen is part of Greener Kirkcaldy’s community building. We’re based in the heart of Kirkcaldy\, close to the High Street and the train and bus station. Find out how to get here. \nOur purpose built training kitchen has eight workstations\, replicating the ease and comfort of cooking at home. \nOur cookery school is complemented by a productive and climate-friendly garden\, where we run volunteer training sessions and grow seasonal herbs\, fruit and vegetables to use in our classes and events. We also have a larger community training garden and orchard in Dysart. \nWe host a wide range of events\, courses and workshops on all aspects of food and drink. Both our Community Training Kitchen and Production Kitchen are available for hire too. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. SUMMARY:Cook and dine: Turkish meze
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Turkish meze workshop where we’ll make a range of authentic and delicious dishes and then we’ll get together to eat our creations and discuss the recipes and flavours. \nTurkish meze is usually a selection of appetisers or snacks served before a main course. This can include a variety of dips\, salads\, braises\, cheese and veg which are shared and enjoyed among everyone at the table. \nThe meze we’ll prepare at this workshop will include: \n\nEzme – a spicy tomato and pepper dip\nCacik – yoghurt\, cucumber and garlic dip\nSaksuka – roasted aubergine and peppers with tomato and olive oil sauce\nBarbunya pilaki – borlotti beans served in an aromatic sauce with tomatoes and potatoes\nFava – broad bean dip\nSigara boregi – crisp filo rolls filled with feta cheese and herbs\nMucver – courgette fritters\nMercimek koftesi – red lentil patties with bulgur and herbs\n\nWe’ll serve these alongside some feta cheese\, pickles and fresh bread to complete the meze experience. \nAll recipes are easily adaptable for vegetarians. \nThe Lang Spoon Community Kitchen\nThe Lang Spoon Community Kitchen is part of Greener Kirkcaldy’s community building.
