SUMMARY:Kelpies to Charlestown cycling adventure (using the Inner Forth Cycle Route)
DESCRIPTION:Photo: Andy McCandlish for Inner Forth Futures (c) 2024 \nJoin us for a brand-new themed cycle ride celebrating the stunning Inner Forth coastline! Starting at the iconic Kelpies and finishing in Charlestown\, this ride offers a unique way to explore the natural beauty and heritage of the area. \nTo make the journey more accessible\, we’ll be using the Inner Forth Bike Bus\, which stops at various points along the Inner Forth Cycle Route. This means you can choose to ride the full route or just a section. Perfect for all levels of cyclists. \nThe Inner Forth Cycle Route is managed by Climate Forth and offers a great opportunity to discover new parts of the route for future adventures. \nWhether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just looking for a scenic day out\, come and be part of this celebration of our coastline! \nRoute Information\n\nDistance – very long\nHills – one long hill\nSurfaces –mainly surfaced\, with some section on compacted earth. This would is not suitable for skinny tyres. Hybrid\, mountain bikes\, and gravel-style bikes are needed.\nRoute – mainly on traffic-free paths\, with some on quiet roads.\n\nWe will carry out basic bike checks at the start of the ride. \nChildren under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. \nSchedule\nInner forth bus: \nBus leaves Charlestown 09:50 \nArrive at Kelpies 10:40 \nCycle (including breaks and stops) \nStart at Kelpies 11:00 \nArrive back in Charlestown 14:00 \nGetting to Charlestown\nThe closest train station is Inverkeithing. There will be a led cycle to Charlestown leaving from Inverkeithing Rail Station at 8:40am. Please let us know in the booking form if you wish to join us for this. \nAlternatively you can cycle there on your own via our suggested route on Komoot or find your own way there. \nIt is roughly a 40 minute cycle from Inverkeithing Rail Station to Charlestown. \nTrain times: \nKirkcaldy – Inverkeithing: \n08:22 – 08:37 \nLeven – Kirkcaldy – Inverkeithing \n08:29 – 08:47 – 09:09 \nReturn train times: \nInverkeithing – Kirkcaldy – Leven \n14:42 – 15:03 – 15:23 \n15:42 – 16:03 – 16:23 \nInverkeithing – Kirkcaldy \n14:54 – 15:10 \nFor additional times or information on getting to Inverkeithing from other rail stations in Fife please plan your journey on Scotrail. \nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this bike ride is weather-dependent. \nParticipants should be able to cycle for 4 hrs at a leisurely pace. \nPlease ensure you bring enough water and snacks with you. You will need to bring a packed lunch. There may be an opportunity to stop for a tea or a coffee. \nPlease make sure your bike is roadworthy before coming and wear appropriate clothes for the weather. Remember to also bring your own water and snacks. There are some sections that will be on unpaved surfaces. \nIf you want to know more specific information about the route please contact us.
