SUMMARY:Sustainable Seasonal Seaweed
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a walk from our site at Ravenscraig Walled Garden to Dysart Beach as we go for a coastal adventure. \nProfessional Seaweed Harvester\, Jayson\, of East Neuk Seaweed will teach us how to identify local\, seasonal and edible seaweeds. \nWe will use sustainable harvesting techniques to take some home with us. Jayson will inspire us to explore the possibilities of using seaweeds in our kitchen and garden! \nAt the end we will share a cuppa and discuss ways in which we can help to conserve this valuable resource for the next generation. \nThis is a great chance to take part in a fun and informative morning. \nThe workshop is suitable for over 16’s only and will involve some physical activity over potentially rocky terrain. DESCRIPTION:Our Ravenscraig gardeners will share their knowledge and experience to help you look after your young plants. We’ll plant seedlings outside and identify which ones need protection or support. SUMMARY:Culinary and Medicinal Herbs
DESCRIPTION:Many of our garden herbs such as comfrey\, rosemary and plantain can be used as both food and medicines. \nIn this workshop we will learn about useful native herbs and plants\, and others that can be grown in Fife. We’ll focus on plants and herbs that are medicinal and can also be used in our home cooking. We will help you identify plants that grow wild\, some that can be cultivated at home and discuss how they can be used\, and you’ll plant seeds so you can take away a pot of herbs with you to grow and use at home. \nWe’ll be taking a gentle walk around the garden to identify and collect herbs that grow wild\, and also spending some time discussing the herbs growing in our herb spiral. The tutor for the class will be Simone Melanie from Solar Ripe. \nThere will be a mix of theory and practical hands-on activities\, including walking around the garden. No experience necessary. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and walking footwear. SUMMARY:Spring Foraging for Wild Edibles
DESCRIPTION:The new green shoots of spring are packed full of vitamins and minerals for us to use bringing a refreshing zing to our cooking after winter. Learn how to identify and use garden herbs and plants such as nettles\, wild garlic\, chickweed and dandelion – and then we’ll discuss how to turn them into pesto\, soups and teas. \nWe will take a leisurely walk round our walled garden wilder areas\, identifying which of our common plants can be harvested sustainably to make into tasty spring recipes .
