SUMMARY:Herbs for Well Being: Body\, Mind and Spirit
DESCRIPTION:As we continue to live during this time of pandemic it can be easy to feel run down and anxious. The good news is that a wide array of plants are at hand to help us through this time. Join Simone Melanie at the Greener Kirkcaldy community garden to learn about how you can use herbs for relaxation and nourishment in this 3 hour workshop. \nWe will focus on native plants that we can find growing all around us\, and learn how we can use them to support our immune and nervous systems to help keep us in good health. As we take a gentle walk around the garden we will learn to identify and harvest seasonal plants\, and discuss their different uses and benefits. There will also be a practical session where we will make a sleep pillow to take home\, and try some teas and remedies. \nSimone Melanie has worked with plants for over twenty years\, and has experience growing medicinal plants and making them into remedies\, which she has done from her medicine garden in Fife since 2014. During 2020 she worked with Grass Roots Remedies in Edinburgh to respond to the covid pandemic by creating a range of herbal remedies to various communities across the city. \nNo experience necessary\, the workshop is suitable for beginners. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and be prepared to be outside in all weathers! \nThe workshop will take place at Ravenscraig Walled Garden. \nBooking Information \nFull price: £25 \nGreener Kirkcaldy members/volunteers: £22.50 \nConcessions*: £20 \n *Students (full time)\, Senior Citizens (65+)\, eligible benefits (Income Support\, Working Tax Credit\, Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance\, Income based Employment and Support Allowance\, Housing Benefit and Universal Credit). SUMMARY:Sustainable Seasonal Seaweed (Postponed)
DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the end of April. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nVisit Scotland is celebrating a year of Coasts and Waters this 2020 with a program of exciting events and performances planned nationwide. We have been inspired to celebrate our own coastline and have asked professional seaweed harvester\, Jayson\, of East Neuk Seaweed to host a workshop teaching us all about the many uses of seaweed in the garden! \nJoin us for a walk to Dysart beach where we will learn how to identify local\, seasonal and edible seaweeds. Jayson will be showing us how to keep safe when harvesting seaweed and how to use sustainable harvesting techniques in order to protect this natural resource. We’ll also discuss tidal zones and learn when to harvest different seaweeds. \nWe will then take some seaweed back to the cabin where we will discuss the many ways you can utilise this abundant natural resource in your gardens. \nThis is a great opportunity to take part in a fun\, exciting and informative morning outdoors! The workshop is suitable for over 16s only and will involve some physical activity over potentially rocky terrain. Access to the beach is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility. \n  \nBooking information\nBooking is required as spaces are limited. \nFull price: £30 \nGreener Kirkcaldy members/volunteers: £27 \nConcession: £24 \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Summer Pruning Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Our holistic fruit tree care and pruning workshop will introduce you to pruning apple\, pear\, cherry and plum trees\, taking a natural approach. We’ll cover basic techniques and methods to start you pruning with confidence at home. We’ll also look at common pests and diseases\, and how to deal with them organically. The course is based at our orchard in Ravenscraig Walled Garden and covers some theory about pruning but is largely practical and outside\, allowing hands on practice and question time. \nSummer pruning should take place from the end of July\, so this workshop gives you the chance to learn some skills before its time to prune your own trees. \nThe workshop will be led by Appletreeman Andrew Lear\, an expert on growing fruit in the Scottish climate (and a key influence on the development of our Ravenscraig orchard). More information about Andrew on his website. \nNo experience necessary. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and walking footwear. There is disabled parking on site and the venue is wheelchair accessible. \n  \nBooking information\nBooking is required as spaces are limited. Please book using the ‘Register’ button above. \nFull price: £20 \nGreener Kirkcaldy members/volunteers: £18 \nConcessions*: £16 \n*Students (full time)\, Senior Citizens (65+)\, eligible benefits (Income Support\, Working Tax Credit\, Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance\, Income based Employment and Support Allowance\, Housing Benefit and Universal Credit).
