SUMMARY:Climate Friendly Homes
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in having a warmer\, more energy efficient home\, with lower energy and repair costs and a reduced carbon footprint? Are you thinking about switching to an electric vehicle and want to know more about how it could complement home renewables? \nWe are spending more time at home\, and our homes are now doubling up as workplaces and schools\, so it makes sense to manage our energy use effectively. Since a third of our emissions come from heating and powering our homes\, reducing our energy use is good for the planet as well as our purse. \nAt this event\, you’ll hear about: the importance of taking a whole-house approach to cutting your energy usage and improving efficiency; practical and affordable ways to make your home comfortable and healthy; and we are using how tools such as draught testing and thermal imaging to help you make long-lasting reductions in your carbon emissions. \nYou’ll also hear from experts at Home Energy Scotland on a range of improvements to make your home warmer and more energy efficient whilst reducing running costs. Find out which home renewables would best suit you – and the funding available to make these larger changes. You’ll also hear about how the transition to electric vehicles can help you to make the most of any energy you generate at home. Home Energy Scotland will also be sharing how they have recently helped other households become more climate friendly. \nThe event will finish with a question and answer session\, giving you plenty of time to get advice about your own home. \nWe will be using Zoom to host the event. A joining link will be sent out once you have booked your place.

SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Café: A Simpler Way
DESCRIPTION:Be part of tackling climate change – join us for monthly films\, guest speakers and discussions.\n\n\nThis month we will be hosting an online event: a screening of the 2016 award-winning film\, A Simpler Way: Crisis as Opportunity\, followed by an online discussion. \n\nWhilst we are living in a time of crises – from the climate emergency to the covid pandemic – we also have the opportunity to change the way we live to the benefit of our community and our environment. A Simpler Way follows a community who came together to explore and demonstrate a simpler way to live in response to crises. Throughout the year the group build tiny houses\, plant organic veg gardens\, practice simple living\, and discover the challenges of living in community. \nThe film documents the community’s learning process as well as exploring the global issues we’re facing\, through interviews with some of today’s most interesting speakers on the subjects\, including permaculture co-originator David Holmgren\, filmmaker and activist Helena Norberg-Hodge\, climate change activist David Spratt and many more. \nThis film provides inspiring answers to some of today’s questions: What does living sustainably really mean? What is it we are trying to protect and at what cost?  And what might a responsible\, regenerative and resilient community look like? \n  \n\nhttp://https://vimeo.com/163775375 \n\n  \nBooking Information \nThe film showing and discussion is free but booking is required as places are limited. \nWe’ll send out a joining link to attendees to allow them to join a couple of days before the event. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Café - December (online event)
DESCRIPTION:Be part of tackling climate change – join us for monthly films\, guest speakers and discussions.\n\n\nThis month we will be hosting an online event: a film showing of the award-winning and inspiring 2016 documentary\, Thank You For The Rain\, followed by an online discussion. \n\n  \nHow did a Kenyan farmer become an international climate activist? \nA compelling\, engaging\, and complex portrait of an environmental activist. African Studies Review\, September 2018. \nSince 2010\, Kisilu\, a smallholder farmer in Kenya\, has used his camera to capture the life of his family\, his village and the impacts of climate change. He has filmed floods\, droughts and storms but also the more human costs – his children are sent home from school when he can’t pay the fees; men are moving to towns in search for jobs; and family tensions rise. Following a storm that destroys his house\, Kisilu starts building a community movement of farmers fighting the impacts of extreme weather and he takes this message of hope all the way to the UN Climate Talks\, in Paris\, COP21.  \n\nCombining stunning cinematography with hand-held\, first-person accounts\, this vividly textured documentary is a moving portrait of resilience on the frontlines of climate change\, and echoes the strength of spirit of its remarkable protagonist. \n\nThank You For The Rain addresses a range of issues linked to climate change\, including climate justice\, urbanization\, gender equality\, education\, access to water\, climate refugees\, and adaptation\, shown through one man’s journey from father and local farmer to community leader and global activist. \n\nhttp://https://vimeo.com/143747529 \n\nThis film is shown in collaboration with Take One Action. The film is in English and Swahili with English subtitles and suitable for age 8+ \n\nWatch at home with us on Wednesday 2nd December\, then join with others in the local community for our live post-film discussion. \n\n  \nBooking Information \nThe film showing and discussion is free but booking is required as places are limited. \nWe’ll send out a joining link to attendees to allow them to join on the day. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Cafe - June (online)
DESCRIPTION:Be part of tackling climate change – join us for monthly films\, guest speakers and discussions. \n  \nThis month we will be hosting an online event: a film showing of the 2018 film The Green Lie\, followed by an online discussion. \n\nEnvironmentally-friendly electric cars\, sustainably-produced food products\, fair production processes… Can our purchasing power help save the world? \nIn this tongue-in-cheek two-hander\, Austrian director Werner Boote and German author Kathrin Hartmann meticulously unpick some of the most prevalent ‘greenwashing’ myths at play today. They take viewers on a round-the-globe tour of corporate hypocrisy\, to the sites of catastrophic environmental disasters and shocking land rights violations – all of which are harming humans\, animals and the planet despite the glowing promises of effective self-regulation. \nFar from disempowering\, however\, this exposé of our limited choice as ethical consumers reminds us that our power as individuals does not lie in our wallets\, but in our actions and behaviours as voters\, citizens and members of our communities. \n\n\nFilms are shown in partnership with Take One Action Film Festivals. Watch at home on Wednesday 3rd June\, then join with others in the local community for our live post-film discussion.\n\nThis film has a certificate of 12+ and is English\, and German with English subtitles\n  \nBooking Information \nThe film showing and discussion is free but booking is required as places are limited. \nWe’ll send out a joining link to attendees to allow them to join on the day. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.
