SUMMARY:Fife Climate Knowhow - online course
DESCRIPTION:Be part of International Carbon Literacy Action Day – the world’s largest climate education and action training event. From every corner of the globe\, thousands of people of all ages\, backgrounds\, and nationalities will unite to undergo Carbon Literacy training – in line with UN COP29 Climate Change Conference \nClimate Action Fife: Climate Knowhow Training\nOur Fife Climate Knowhow course will tell you all you need to know about the climate emergency! We will look at the science\, causes and impacts; and consider how climate change is affecting us in Fife. We will discuss individual and community climate action and work out how to challenge the climate silence. \nAt the end of our course\, you will have an awareness of the carbon impact and cost of everyday activities. You will also be able to reduce your own those of your community or organisation. No previous climate change knowledge is required\, this is a shared learning experience! \nOur course meets the Carbon Literacy Project Standard. This means that you can gain Carbon Literate accreditation (and a certificate) by completing a short assessment. \nOur course is delivered online across four 2 hour modules: \n\nThursday 14th November – Module 1 – Climate Science & Justice\nThursday 21st November – Module 2 – Causes & Impacts\nThursday 28th November – Module 3 – Adaptation & Action\nThursday 5th December – Module 4 – Communicating Climate Change\n\nAll 6:30pm -8:30pm & delivered online via Zoom. It is recommended that you attend all four modules. No previous climate change knowledge is required. This is a shared learning experience! \nThe event will take place online via Zoom. They will also talk about the current funding that they are applying for.  \nThere will be a question and answer session to share quick wins and tips on reducing energy use. Louise Oliver\, our Business Outreach Coordinator\, will answer your questions about the new Fife Town Centre Building Improvement Grant.  \nThis event takes place during Fife Business Week. It is aimed at owners of town centre businesses and community buildings who want to reduce their carbon footprint.  \nThe Scottish Government has net-zero targets that all businesses must follow by 2030. DESCRIPTION:Making food good for all in Fife and our planet. \nMaking food good is everyone’s business. This includes growing and producing food\, distributing and sharing it\, accessing and eating it and how we deal with waste from food. Everything we do around food in Fife is important to our people\, communities\, public places\, businesses\, our economy\, and our land. \nThe Fife Food Summit will take place online on Tuesday 22nd June 2021 from 9.30am – 1pm. The event will be chaired by Pete Ritchie\, Executive Director Nourish Scotland\, Farmer and Food Expert. The keynote speakers are: UN Climate Change Award Winners 2019 Ghent en Garde\, and Edible Edinburgh who will talk about how new approaches to food ate making an impact for people\, the economy\, and the planet. and themed workshops will explore ideas and examples of work that are happening both within and out with Fife to inspire changes we can make. \nThe Summit will focus on key themes including reducing food waste and keeping good food in circulation\, how we can use and procure local and seasonal food more\, and work better together to bring about good food for Fife and our planet. It will also launch the first steps towards creating a sustainable climate-friendly Food Partnership and Vision for Fife that is being developed by Fife Council’s Climate Change and Zero Waste Team. It’s a great opportunity to bring people\, communities\, organisations\, professionals\, businesses\, students\, the public and private sectors and anyone interested in influencing our food in Fife. \nWe will use the online platform HOPIN for this event\, which will allow for an enjoyable experience and ample opportunity for discussion\, networking and accessing exhibits such as films and recordings in the Expo Booths. \n\nTo register: please click this link to register for the Hopin event. DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the first year of Love Oor Lang Toun and looking ahead to creating a 21st Century Kirkcaldy to be proud of! \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Love Oor Lang Toun as they celebrate their first birthday! \nHear about what they have been doing since they launched last April and find out about their plan for the next three years. \nThey’re also excited to have a guest speaker – Professor Leigh Sparks\, Chair of Scotland’s Towns Partnership speaking at the event. \nLeigh Sparks is Professor of Retail Studies and Deputy Principal at the University of Stirling. He is well known for his academic work on retailing and town centres. He was a member of the National Review of Town Centres in 2013 and has been the Chair of Scotland’s Towns Partnership since 2014. He recently chaired the review for the Scottish Government into the Town Centre Action Plan (“A New Future for Scotland’s Town Centres”) and was a member of their Social Renewal Advisory Board. He is also on the Ministerial Retail Strategy Advisory Group. \nProfessor Sparks will talk about the “A New Future for Scotland’s Towns” Action Plan\, including its key findings and vision for the future\, what a vibrant town centre will look like and what role a town’s community can play to create a positive future. \nFinally\, they’ll be giving you a chance to share your views for the future of the town. \nBooking Instructions \nThe event is free\, but booking is required. \nThe event will take place on Zoom. SUMMARY:Plate Up for Fife (2-part online workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Climate Action Fife is a Fife-wide partnership project\, bringing together individuals\, communities\, local government and businesses to tackle the climate emergency. It is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund.  \nWe can introduce some simple changes at home by being more climate-friendly in our food choices. Join us online in our Plate Up For Fife workshop programme where we will focus on two themes: Worskhop 1: reducing our food waste on Tuesday 13th April at 7pm\, and Workshop 2: eating locally and seasonally on Tuesday 20th April at 7pm. We’ll also be talking about other ways we can reduce our meat and dairy consumption. It’s important to attend both workshops.  \nThe workshops will include demos by our community chef making dishes that help us learn skills for using up leftovers\, reducing waste and cooking with local fruit and vegetables. We’ll share recipes and participants can collect a bag of free ingredients to make at least one of the meals we demonstrate in your own time.  \n We will share information about each topic and have surveys for participants to complete. We also hope to generate discussions during the workshops and have fun learning from each other! \n \nBooking Information  \n The event is free but booking is required as places are limited.
