SUMMARY:Fix a flat & basic bike checks
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to fix a flat tyre on your bike so you can have the skills to make the fix at home or mid ride. \nStarting with the basics’ you will be hands on removing and re-installing the wheel/s on your bike. We will then run through removing the tyre and inner tube and how to check for what caused the puncture\, allowing you to repair the tube or to prevent another puncture from happening. A run through of the common causes will be demonstrated during the session. \nBefore going out on a ride\, doing an M-Check is a great way to test your bike to make sure that it is in safe mechanical order before you go for a ride. \nDuring this session\, we will demonstrate how to carry out this simple but vital check in a fun and informative way to help you get the most out of your bike and prevent any unexpected mechanicals. \nThis course is run by qualified mechanical staff at Lang Toun Cycles. \nNo mechanical experience is needed. \nTea\, coffee and water will be provided \nIdeally\, you should bring along your own bike or\, if you like you can use one of our provided bikes. We will provide the required tools\, protective equipment and work stands. \nYou will have the opportunity to purchase tools. \nPlease wear clothing you do not mind getting dirty as you will be dealing with grease and grime. SUMMARY:Evening off-road social cycle – Kirkcaldy to Cardenden trails ride
DESCRIPTION:Explore some great off-road routes between Kirkcaldy and Cardenden on our evening cycle ride. The ride is led and supported by Lang Toun Cycles’ staff and volunteers so you will be in safe and capable hands. \nThe ride starts at Lang Toun Cycles before heading north out of town. We will head through Sunnyside Woods before dropping down into Cardenden then up through the Carden Den (where the village gets its name) and back into Kirkcaldy via the trails of the Raith Estate. Watch out for the buffaloes! \nView the route map \nThe route is 13.5 miles in length with approx. 696 ft of climbing \nWith riding on all types of surfaces\, there will be elevations changes to challenge you going up as well as down\, and plenty of chance to share stories and the fun of off-road riding. \nAdditional Information\nPlease bring sufficient fluid and snacks to keep you going for 3 hours of riding. \nYou should be able to ride a bicycle on un-sealed paths and rougher surfaces \nYou should have an off road capable bicycle in safe working order. This can be either a mountain bike with minimum 1.75 inch wide knobbly tyres\, or a cross/gravel bike with minimum 35mm wide knobbly tyre. \nCycle Helmets are mandatory \nYou must bring at least one spare inner tube that is the correct size for your bike. \nNot suitable for younger children. 16+ years only \nPlease wear clothing suitable for cycling and the weather on the day – comfortable and with flexibility (no jeans\, open-toed shoes\, flip-flops or sandals). \nIf you have any questions or would like any advice on whether you are able to take part\, please ask in store at Lang Toun Cycles or call 01592 328920. DESCRIPTION:Kicking off Greener Kirkcaldy’s “Seasons for Cycling” year-long festival of cycling\, come along and hear from Mike Elm and his “Rolling with the Punctures” cycling adventures. \nMike says: “Rolling with the punctures is a state of mind.” \nIt’s also an 8\,000km bumpy bike ride that Mike Elm went on in 2023 from his dad’s home country of England to his mother’s home country of Greece via Tunisian Sandstorms\, Bosnian mountains and Albanian errr… also mountains\, and some places in between. \nHear about hunting for Roman aqueducts\, meeting the Amazigh people in Tunisia\, learning the ancient Kanun laws of Albania\, Europe’s deepest canyon\, scorpions\, midnight boars\, real forests\, sweet ‘grav’ and coming face to face with the climate crisis. Expect silly puns and sweet pics from Mike’s 7 months on and off the road.” \nProgramme: \n6pm – 7pm – Nibbles and natter. Light bites and tea and coffee will be provided \n7pm – 8:30pm – Rolling with the Punctures talk with Mike Elm. \n8:30pm – 11pm – Cycle ride. We will head out into the Summer Solstice evening for a group ride to take in the magnificent views across the Forth Estuary. DESCRIPTION:Lee Craigie is one of Scotland’s great bike racers. \nIn her new book\, Other Ways to Win\, she tells her story of discovering the freedom of cycling while at school\, of her journey to becoming a national mountain bike champion and her life after racing on cycling adventures around the world\, and encouraging other women through her work with the Adventure Syndicate. \nJoin Lee as she examines the power of the outdoors and reminds us that there is more than one way to win at cycling – and at life. \nCycle ride – 2:30pm – 4:30pm \nThere will be a leisurely social group ride with Lee around Kirkcaldy leaving Lang Toun Cycles at 2:30pm lasting approximately 2 hours. \nIf you would like to borrow a bike and/or helmet for this part of the event please get in touch by email at social@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk or by calling 01592 858 458. \nParticipants should be able to cycle for 1.5-2hrs at a leisurely pace. \nTalk – 6:30pm – 9pm \nStarting at 6:30pm there will be some light snacks and refreshments including teas and coffees available before Lee delivers a talk at 7pm. \nBooking Instructions\nThe event is free but booking is required. DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Lang Toun Cycles\, the rides will take in off road routes and trails in and around Kirkcaldy\, exploring some “secret shortcuts” through local woodlands\, up and down hills and coastal routes. \nWith riding on all types of surfaces\, there will be elevation changes to challenge you going up as well as down and plenty of chances to share stories and the fun of off-road riding.  \nLang Toun Cycles’ Project Manager David Glover is leading this. David is an experienced mountainbiker\, racer and multi-day bikepacker. He has a Mountain Bike Leader qualification and has a UKCC Level 2 MTB (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate Level 2 Mountain Bike). He also has night time leader qualifications. With a wealth of experience riding in the dark\, he has raced at multiple 24hr mountain bike events\, including several times at the infamous Strathpuffer 24hr winter MTB race in the north of Scotland.  \nYou will be in safe and capable hands and have the opportunity to learn new skills and tips for effective night riding off-road \n Additional Information\nPlease note that this bike ride is weather-dependent. \nPlease bring sufficient fluid and food to keep you going for 3 hours of riding. \nPlease make sure your bike is roadworthy before coming and note that helmets are mandatory on this ride. This ride is not suitable for younger children. 16+ years only \nYou must be able to ride a bicycle on un-sealed paths and rougher surfaces. \nYou musy have an off road capable bicycle in safe working order. This can be either a mountain bike with minimum 1.75 inch wide knobbly tyres\, or a cross/gravel bike with minimum 35mm wide knobbly tyre. \nRiders are also to bring at least one spare inner tube that is the correct size for their bike. \nRear facing red light and forward facing white light\, with a minimum brightness of 500 Lumens are required\, that can last up to 2 hours. Plus basic back-up front white and rear red lights are advisable.  \nLights can be borrowed from Lang Toun Cycles at a small fee of £10 per person (payable on the day at Lang Toun Cycles) \nPlease wear appropriate clothes for cycling and the weather on the day. With a wealth of experience riding in the dark\, he has raced at multiple 24hr mountain bike events\, including several times at the infamous Strathpuffer 24hr winter MTB race in the north of Scotland.  \nYou will be in safe and capable hands and have the opportunity to learn new skills and tips for effective night riding off-road \n Additional Information\nPlease note that this bike ride is weather-dependent. \nPlease bring sufficient fluid and food to keep you going for 3 hours of riding. \nPlease make sure your bike is roadworthy before coming and note that helmets are mandatory on this ride. This ride is not suitable for younger children. 16+ years only \nYou must be able to ride a bicycle on un-sealed paths and rougher surfaces. \nYou musy have an off road capable bicycle in safe working order. This can be either a mountain bike with minimum 1.75 inch wide knobbly tyres\, or a cross/gravel bike with minimum 35mm wide knobbly tyre. \nRiders are also to bring at least one spare inner tube that is the correct size for their bike. \nRear facing red light and forward facing white light\, with a minimum brightness of 500 Lumens are required\, that can last up to 2 hours. Plus basic back-up front white and rear red lights are advisable.  \nLights can be borrowed from Lang Toun Cycles at a small fee of £10 per person (payable on the day at Lang Toun Cycles) \nPlease wear appropriate clothes for cycling and the weather on the day. Starting at Lang Toun Cycles\, we’ll head through town\, past Ravenscraig Castle and through the beautiful park and woods to our Community Training Garden. \nThe 1.5-mile walk will take around 45 minutes\, and be on fairly flat\, paved surfaces with some sections of gravel footpath. There is a flight of steps past Ravenscraig Castle\, which will be bypassed if participants prefer/require a step-free route. \nPlease note this route is 1 way and stops at Ravenscraig Walled Gardens near Dysart. \nContact us if you need any more information.
