SUMMARY:Castles and Towers Bike Ride Revisited
DESCRIPTION:Come along to this leisurely bike ride\, exploring local history! We will visit various Castles and Towers around Kirkcaldy\, many of which not many people know much about or even that they exist! The new route includes an extra tower adding to the colourful history of Kirkcaldy and the surrounding area that we will explore on this ride. \nThe ride will have several stops on the route\, where our Ride Leader/Guide will be providing lots of interesting information about the sites we will be visiting. \nRoute Information\n\nDistance – long\nHills – mainly flat but a bit hillier when heading off-road in the Balwearie area.\nSurfaces – A mix of off-road and tarmacked surfaces. Not recommended for young children or bikes with skinnier tyres.\nRoute – Connects St Serfs Tower\, Ravenscraig Castle\, Balwearie Castle & Tower\, Seafield Tower and Piteadie Castle.\n\nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this bike ride is weather-dependent. \nParticipants should be able to cycle for 2-2.5hrs at a leisurely pace. \nPlease make sure your bike is roadworthy before coming and wear appropriate clothes for the weather. Remember to also bring your own water and snacks. There are some sections that will be on unpaved surfaces. \nUnder 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. \nIf you want to know more specific information about the route please contact us. SUMMARY:Buggy walk - Kirkcaldy Prom
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an easy buggy/carrier walk along Kirkcaldy Esplanade from the Esplanade Basin to the “Kirkcaldy Heart” and back. \nThis session is aimed at parents and carers with young children. We will go at an easy pace\, allowing plenty of time to chat as we go. Please bring your own water\, and feel free to join us at Morrisons café afterwards if you have time to hang around for a cuppa. \nThis is the first in a series of buggy walks this summer and part of our Communities Connected programme. \nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this walk is weather-dependent. In the event of forecast adverse weather\, Greener Kirkcaldy staff will decide whether to go ahead with the walk the day before. We will contact attendees via phone and email if the walk cannot go ahead. \nThis is an easy walk for parents and carers with babies or toddlers in a buggy or carrier. Participants should be able to walk 2 miles at a leisurely pace. The route along the Esplanade is flat. \nPlease dress yourself and your child appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear. Please bring your own water/drink\, and feel free to join us at Morrisons café if you have time to hang around for a cuppa after. There are coin-operated toilets in the car park\, and other facilities in nearby shops. \nUnder 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. SUMMARY:E-bike demo day
DESCRIPTION:Come along and try out an e-bike on a short ride looking at the benefits of electronically assisted bikes for local travel\, shopping and exploring locally. When you pedal\, the e-bike will add power\, enabling you to go further and quicker\, leaving you with more consistent journey times and making hills easy! \nElectric Bikes Scotland are bringing a wide variety of the latest e-bikes for us to demo.  \nThere are 2 rides of varying distances – please choose the ride that you feel would best suit you.  \nRides \nPlease come along 15 minutes before your ride to choose your bike and familiarise yourself with it.  \nShort ride: The 10:30am ride is a leisurely cycle\, mainly on traffic-free paths. We will head out along the Prom before testing out the bikes on the hill up to Ravenscraig Park. This ride is suitable for less confident riders who don’t currently cycle often (although you must be able to ride a bike).  \nLong ride: The 12pm ride is a longer\, slightly faster ride\, taking in some of Kirkcaldy’s legendary hills to show what these bikes are capable of. The ride consists of a mixture of traffic-free paths and quiet roads and is suitable for people who are already confident riders but feel they would like to try out an E-Bike.  \nThere will be loads of time to chat about all things e-bike and swap bikes around to see what works for you. \nBooking \nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. Join us on a short ride to see the benefits and possibilities they could offer you in terms of active travel and leisure.  \nWe\, together with Electric Bikes Scotland\, will provide a fleet of E-Bikes to borrow for the ride.  \nThere will be two rides of varying distance – please choose the ride that you feel would best suit you.  \nRides will be 10:30-11:30am and 12-1:30pm\, but please come along 15mins before your ride to choose your bike and familiarise yourself with it.  \nThe 10:30am ride will be a leisurely ride\, mainly on traffic-free paths. We will head out along the Prom before testing out the bikes on the hill up to Ravenscraig Park. This ride is suitable for less confident riders who don’t currently cycle often (although you must be able to ride a bike).  \nThe 12pm ride will be a longer\, slightly faster ride\, testing out some of Kirkcaldy’s legendary hills. The ride will be on a mixture of traffic-free paths and quiet roads. This ride is suitable for people who are already confident riders but feel they would like to try out an E-Bike.  \nWe will be meeting at the Basin car park on the Prom (near Morrisons).  \nParticipants should be able to cycle for 1-1.5hr at a leisurely pace. If you feel like you need any breaks along the way\, you can let one of our ride leaders know.  \nYou must be at least 16 years old. Please wear appropriate clothes for the weather and make sure to bring your own refreshments. \nBooking\nThe event is free but booking is required. We will head along the Prom before testing out the bikes on the hill up to Ravenscraig Park. This ride is suitable for less confident cyclists who don’t currently cycle much (although you must be able to cycle). \nThe 12pm ride will be a longer\, faster ride\, testing out some of Kirkcaldy’s legendary hills. The ride will be on a mixture of traffic-free paths and quiet roads.
