DESCRIPTION:This year our Annual Gathering is all about climate justice and how we can all act together locally to move towards global change. \nWe look forward to welcoming our guest speakers Dr Mike Robinson OBE\, Chief Executive\, Royal Scottish Geographical Society and Zarina Ahmad\, Co-director\, Women’s Environmental Network (WEN) & Climate Change Communicator and PhD Researcher at University of Manchester. \nWe will also be at the midway point of our strategic plan so there will an opportunity to review what we have achieved and share your ideas of what we should focus on for the next two and a half years. \nThe event will take place in the Beveridge Suite of the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy. \nOur Speakers\nDr Mike Robinson OBE\, FRSE – Chief Executive\, Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) \nMike has been Chief Executive of RSGS since 2008\, overseeing the RSGS move to Perth and rejuvenating the charity’s purpose\, positioning and profile – and that of geography and geographers in Scottish civic society too. \nThrough this role – and over the course of the last 25 years – Mike has been instrumental in informing policy through joined-up\, collaborative action\, particularly in sustainability and climate change. In 2022 Mike was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Stirling for dedicating his life to campaigning for the environment\, in 2023 awarded an OBE for his services to climate change education and in 2025 made a Fellow of The Royal Society of Edinburgh. \nZarina Ahmad – Co-director\, Women’s Environmental Network (WEN) & Climate Change Communicator and PhD Researcher at University of Manchester \nOne of the mighty women on Woman’s Hour’s 2020 Our Planet Power List\, Zarina founded the Ethnic Minority Environmental Network leading the charge for increasing participation in environmentalism in Scotland. Zarina has dedicated herself to creating pathways for under-represented groups to belong to the environmental sector -increasing not only a diversity of people\, but a diversity of ideas by providing training and creating learning spaces. \nZarina is a researcher on a number of food justice projects\, with the Just FACT programme\, Nourish and University of Glasgow. \nZarina has created spaces for racialised marginalised women’s voices to be heard on climate issues\, Climate Sisters who exhibit their creative work at various venues such as the Glasgow Science Centre\, the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. \nZarina’s accolades include recognition by Edinburgh Science Institute as an inspirational woman who has made a significant impact in STEM featuring her in 2021’s festival and is the recipient of the coveted Emma Goldman Award for her feminist work on climate justice and inequalities across Europe. \nZarina has a number of board positions including the Scottish Women’s Budget Group\, committee member of JRCT’s Sustainable Futures Fund and is on the directorate team of Climate X Change and advisory board for CAST.\n \nAnnual General Meeting\nThe event will begin with our AGM. \nOnly Ordinary Members can vote in the AGM. This is all members that live in KY1 or KY2 postcodes. If you’re not a member already\, please consider joining us before then!\n \nBooking information\nOur Annual Gathering is free to attend but spaces are limited\, so booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nTea\, coffee and light snacks will be served on arrival from 10am. Our programme starts promptly at 10:30am. SUMMARY:Celebrating community ownership - what next for Kirkcaldy? Our Annual Gathering and AGM
DESCRIPTION:Our Annual Gathering is a celebration of community ownership! \nThis year Greener Kirkcaldy celebrates five years of owning our community building at 8 East Fergus Place. There are plenty of opportunities to discuss new ideas for the future of the town. \nWe also look forward to welcoming our guest speakers Alastair McIntosh and Mark White. And we will take the opportunity to celebrate our amazing volunteers who bring a true sense of community to our building and Greener Kirkcaldy as a whole. \nAt the gathering\, we want to look to the future for Kirkcaldy and inspire new ideas in the community. The event takes place in the Advantage Suite of the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy. \nSpeakers\nWe are excited to welcome two guest speakers to this year’s gathering. \nAlastair McIntosh\, writer\, academic and activist – Alastair is best known for his work on community empowerment\, human ecology and poverty of body and soul. His books include Soil and Soul on land reform\, Poacher’s Pilgrimage on spirituality and Riders on the Storm on climate change. Raised in the Isle of Lewis\, he has lived in Govan for the past twenty years. He is a founding Trustee of the GalGael Trust and an honorary professor in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow. \nMark White from the Leslie Town Hall Project –  Mark has been a member of Leslie Amateur Drama Club since moving to Scotland in the early 2000s. He is the main driving force behind the Leslie Town Hall Project in Leslie\, near Glenrothes. Mark relishes the challenge of refurbishing the Town Hall and making it a welcoming arts and community centre at the heart of the local community. \nAnnual General Meeting\nThe event will begin with our AGM.
