Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nBring your own project and sew with others at our new fortnightly ‘Sew and Chat’ group. \nWhether you’re struggling a bit with a project and looking for advice\, or just want to meet new people and sew in a group\, we’ll be meeting every other Wednesday for a fun evening with lots of chat\, tea and biscuits\, and\, of course\, plenty of sewing! \nAll abilities welcome. Bring your own project (including your materials\, threads etc.) to work on. It can be anything from the basics to ballgowns! It’s a social evening\, so there’s no formal teaching\, but our sewing tutor\, Gabbi\,will be on hand for guidance\, advice and help. \nWe’ll have some sewing machines available for people to use. DESCRIPTION:Join textile expert Morag Platt for a workshop on rag rugging. Rag work used to be common in rural\, mining and fishing communities where every scrap of fabric had to be reused in some way. This traditional craft involves hooking or prodding strips of fabric into a mesh (usually hessian) base\, and can be used to recycle textiles into rugs\, wall-hangings\, bags\, cushion covers\, pictures and many other household objects. \nThis session will show examples of rag work items and introduce the basic techniques. You will start your own piece of rug which you can then take home and finish. All materials and equipment will be provided. DESCRIPTION:This workshop is an introduction to baking with wild yeast to create sourdough bread and baking. \nPlease note the workshop is made up of 2 sessions (participants should attend both): \nThursday 12th September\, 6.30pm – 8pm – Session 1 – this is all about getting started with sourdough baking. We’ll discuss the fundamentals of baking with wild yeasts\, we’ll look at the methods of creating a sourdough starter and how to look after it. We’ll then make a starter for you to take home and look after so that you can bring it to the next session. \nSaturday 21st September\, 10am – 3pm – Session 2 – this is a practical\, hands-on session when we’ll bake with sourdough starters. You’ll use your own starter to create a sourdough loaf and also some sourdough baking. Sourdough making is a slow process to allow the natural yeasts to work so we’ll have plenty of time to discuss and ask questions. \nOn our fun and informative workshop you’ll learn some basic principles that you can then use at home to get started with sourdough baking. We’ll look at the ingredients and techniques – and how to fit sourdough bread making into your life using a weekly schedule. You’ll leave inspired and ready to start baking regularly. \nThe course is suitable for beginners ((we’ll be using wheat flour – this workshop is not suitable for anyone with a gluten allergy). DESCRIPTION:We are all guilty of throwing out unwanted clothes and textiles for one reason or another… too big\, too small\, old fashioned etc. A lot the time we actually still like the fabric… so why not upcycle it into something you can use instead? \nA coat or jacket can be made into a stylish bag\, a jumper into a cardigan\, a man’s shirt into a child’s summer dress. Come along to our workshop and our experienced sewing tutor\, Gabbi will teach you the skills to change your old garment into something you will re-love. \nAll sewing equipment and machines provided. Just bring along your old garments or fabrics that you wish to upcycle (please make sure they are clean)\, and any accessories you’d like to use. DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the 15th May. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nBring your own project and sew with others at our new fortnightly ‘Sew and Chat’ group. \nWhether you’re struggling a bit with a project and looking for advice\, or just want to meet new people and sew in a group\, we’ll be meeting every other Wednesday for a fun evening with lots of chat\, tea and biscuits\, and\, of course\, plenty of sewing! \nAll abilities welcome. Bring your own project (including your materials\, threads etc.) to work on. It can be anything from the basics to ballgowns! It’s a social evening\, so there’s no formal teaching\, but our sewing tutor\, Gabbi\,will be on hand for guidance\, advice and help. \nWe’ll have some sewing machines available for people to use.
