Sign up to our Computer Maintenance classes and learn new skills to solve common issues and faults. \nJoin us on our 3-week course “Getting to Know Your Computer” with IT expert Sherv. The course will cover computer basics\, internet connection issues\, installing programmes\, internet security\, hard drive maintenance and how to keep your computer virus-free. \nOur small class will ensure that there is plenty of time to ask questions. The course is aimed at laptops and desktop computers. It would be best to bring your laptop with you but if you have a desktop\, you can still join as there will be plenty of handouts for you to take away. \nPLEASE NOTE: There is a minimum number of participants required for this workshop to go ahead. \nThe venue is wheelchair accessible and there is disabled parking on-site. \n  \nBooking information\nThe course is now fully booked.

Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nBring your own project and sew with others at our new fortnightly ‘Sew and Chat’ group. \nWhether you’re struggling a bit with a project and looking for advice\, or just want to meet new people and sew in a group\, we’ll be meeting every other Wednesday for a fun evening with lots of chat\, tea and biscuits\, and\, of course\, plenty of sewing! \nAll abilities welcome. Bring your own project (including your materials\, threads etc.) to work on. It can be anything from the basics to ballgowns! It’s a social evening\, so there’s no formal teaching\, but our sewing tutor\, Gabbi\,will be on hand for guidance\, advice and help. \nWe’ll have some sewing machines available for people to use. SUMMARY:Christmas Bike Ride
DESCRIPTION:Come along for a family-friendly Christmas bike ride. We will meet at Greener Kirkcaldy (8 East Fergus Place)\, where you can make your own Christmas decorations for your bike (and later reuse at home). \nThis will be followed by a leisurely bike ride using a mix of quiet roads and traffic-free paths. We will then return to Greener Kirkcaldy afterwards to warm up with some hot drinks. \nParticipants should be able to cycle for up to an hour at a leisurely pace\, including on quiet roads. Children must be accompanied – no more than two children per adult. \nPlease make sure your bike is roadworthy before coming and wear appropriate clothes for the weather. \nThe event is free but booking is required. SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Cafe - December
DESCRIPTION:Our climate cafe is a new monthly event to bring people together and inspire sustainable living. We’ll have guest speakers\, films and discussions and together we’ll explore ways we can help reach Scotland’s goal of net zero emissions by 2045. \nRefreshments will be provided. \nOur theme for December is the creation of winter traditions and behaviours and how these fit or conflict with low carbon living. We’ll discuss how to cut our carbon footprint at Christmas (6% of our annual carbon footprint is generated from just 3 days at Christmas)\, how our carbon emissions increase in winter but adopting examples other cultures could help us to reduce these\, and finish with looking at what culture we would like to create within our local community by feeding into Fife Council’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (2020-2030)\, which is currently open for consultation until 9th December \n  \nBooking Information\nThe event is free\, but booking is required as spaces are limited. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk

Rag work used to be common in rural\, mining and fishing communities where every scrap of fabric had to be reused in some way. This traditional craft involves hooking or prodding strips of fabric into a mesh (usually hessian) base\, and can be used to recycle textiles into rugs\, wall-hangings\, bags\, cushion covers\, pictures and many other household objects. \nThis session will show examples of rag work items and introduce the basic techniques. SUMMARY:Introduction to Sourdough Baking (2 sessions)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is an introduction to baking with wild yeast to create sourdough bread and baking. \nPlease note the workshop is made up of 2 sessions (participants should attend both): \nThursday 12th September\, 6.30pm – 8pm – Session 1 – this is all about getting started with sourdough baking. We’ll discuss the fundamentals of baking with wild yeasts\, we’ll look at the methods of creating a sourdough starter and how to look after it. We’ll then make a starter for you to take home and look after so that you can bring it to the next session. \nSaturday 21st September\, 10am – 3pm – Session 2 – this is a practical\, hands-on session when we’ll bake with sourdough starters. You’ll use your own starter to create a sourdough loaf and also some sourdough baking. Sourdough making is a slow process to allow the natural yeasts to work so we’ll have plenty of time to discuss and ask questions. \nOn our fun and informative workshop you’ll learn some basic principles that you can then use at home to get started with sourdough baking. We’ll look at the ingredients and techniques – and how to fit sourdough bread making into your life using a weekly schedule. DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the 15th May. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nBring your own project and sew with others at our new fortnightly ‘Sew and Chat’ group. \nWhether you’re struggling a bit with a project and looking for advice\, or just want to meet new people and sew in a group\, we’ll be meeting every other Wednesday for a fun evening with lots of chat\, tea and biscuits\, and\, of course\, plenty of sewing! \nAll abilities welcome. Bring your own project (including your materials\, threads etc.) to work on. It can be anything from the basics to ballgowns! It’s a social evening\, so there’s no formal teaching\, but our sewing tutor\, Gabbi\,will be on hand for guidance\, advice and help. \nWe’ll have some sewing machines available for people to use. Refreshments will be provided. \n£5 per session – payable on the night. No need to book.
