DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of The Flying Scotsman (2006) a British drama film which celebrates the life and career of Scottish amateur cyclist Greame Obree. \nThe film covers the period of Obree’s life that saw him take\, lose\, and then retake the world one-hour distance record.  \nNicknamed The Flying Scotsman\, Obree twice broke the world hour record and was the individual pursuit world champion in 1993 and 1995. He was known for his unusual riding positions and for the Old Faithful bicycle he built which included parts from a washing machine. \nThe film stars Jonny Lee Miller as Obree\, Laura Fraser\, Billy Boyd\, and Brian Cox. \n“gripping\, affecting and inspiring” Russell Baillie\, reviewer at the New Zealand Herald. SUMMARY:Going Greener Together Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a leisurely walk to visit our three sites and find out how our projects are creating a greener and fairer Fife. \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nJoin Greener Kirkcaldy for a tour of our three sites to find out how we are working locally to combat the climate emergency\, tackle fuel poverty and food insecurity\, and bring people together for a more sustainable Kirkcaldy. \nThe walk will start at our community building and community kitchen. We will share how our work engages people on climate change whilst helping them heat their homes more affordable and allowing them to eat well. From there\, we will visit our Community Bike Shop\, Lang Toun Cycles\, where we will hear how our projects are encouraging people to get on their bikes. And finally\, we will take a route past Ravenscraig Castle\, up through the park\, to visit our growing project at Ravenscraig Walled Garden. \nThis walk is part of Kirkcaldy Walking Festival. \nThe Route\nThe route is roughly 3 miles in length and total duration of the event will be around 1 hour 45 minutes with a walking time of around 1 hour. If you need any assistance or require any more information about the route please get in touch. \nThe walk will take place mostly on footpaths\, with a couple of short sections on loose chippings. \nPlease note the route is one way and participants will have to make their own way back from the gardens. \nPlease make sure you wear clothing to suit weather conditions\, and sturdy walking footwear. Remember to also bring your own water and snacks. \nAccessibility\nThe planned route involves climbing stairs\, but can be easily adapted to be suitable for push chairs and wheelchairs. Please let us know in advance via the booking form so we can allow for this. \nOur building at the start of the walk is fully accessible\, with disabled toilet and parking facilities. \nRavenscraig walled garden\, the end point of our walk\, does not have accessible toilets. \nBooking Info\nThis event is free but booking is required. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun\, free and informative workshop that will help you understand climate change. \n\n\n\n\nYou will work as a team to find relationships between 42 climate cards. Each card represents a cause or effect of climate change. Together you will link the cards to build a collage that explains climate change. Collective intelligence and collaboration will get you to a solution! \nThis step-by-step\, cooperative activity will help you work through the complexity of climate change. You will also get to be creating by decorating and naming your finished collage. \nClimate Fresk is perfect for those who know that climate change is important but feel that they would like to understand it more. There is no need for any previous climate knowledge; the workshop is a learning experience. \nClimate Fresk is a French-based NGO with the aim to make climate science more accessible. SUMMARY:Film screening: Not Without Us
DESCRIPTION:Join the Fife Communities Climate Action Network for an in-person screening of the Film Not Without Us. The film shares the experiences of seven grassroots campaigners at COP21. \nNot Without Us is a a rousing documentary immersing viewers in the moving\, personal journeys of seven grassroots campaigners from around the world. They attempt to harness the only force that can prevent catastrophic climate change: The will of the people. \nFollowing the film we will facilitate a discussion on the issues raised and there will be a chance to network with fellow FCCAN members. \nYou don’t have to be a member of FCCAN to attend\, but membership is free and open to any organisation or group in Fife already taking action\, or wishing to take action\, on climate change. The network aims to empower and enable communities to create a low carbon future\, and promote local resilience and well-being. \nThe event will take place at Greener Kirkcaldy’s community building in the heart of Kirkcaldy at 8 East Fergus Place. The building is fully accessible and just a short walk from the bus and railway stations. Car parking on-site is limited to Blue Badge holders only. There is free parking available at Kirkcaldy Train Station. \nWe deliver this event in partnership with Take One Action’s What the COP? Initiative. The initiative helps groups across Scotland explore climate issues in the lead-up to the UN Climate Conference being hosted in Glasgow in November.
