SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Cafe - December
DESCRIPTION:Our climate cafe is a new monthly event to bring people together and inspire sustainable living. We’ll have guest speakers\, films and discussions and together we’ll explore ways we can help reach Scotland’s goal of net zero emissions by 2045. \nRefreshments will be provided. \nOur theme for December is the creation of winter traditions and behaviours and how these fit or conflict with low carbon living. We’ll discuss how to cut our carbon footprint at Christmas (6% of our annual carbon footprint is generated from just 3 days at Christmas)\, how our carbon emissions increase in winter but adopting examples other cultures could help us to reduce these\, and finish with looking at what culture we would like to create within our local community by feeding into Fife Council’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (2020-2030)\, which is currently open for consultation until 9th December \n  \nBooking Information\nThe event is free\, but booking is required as spaces are limited. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk

SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Cafe - October
DESCRIPTION:“We are heading for a Low Carbon Scotland… but how do we get there?” \nTo address this question\, the Scottish Government launched a nationwide Big Climate Conversation this summer\, asking people to come together locally to discuss their thoughts on climate change and what steps we need to take\, together\, to tackle the global climate emergency. \nFeedback from these conversations will be used to help the Scottish Government update its policies and the shape the changes we will all need to make to help Scotland reach its target of net zero emissions by 2045. \nIn the first of our monthly climate cafes\, we’ll use the Big Climate Conversation to examine the Scottish Governments’ proposed measures\, discuss how to incorporate them into their everyday lives\, map our local aspirations and challenges onto the national strategy\, and share our collective response with the government. \n  \nOur climate cafe is a new monthly event to bring people together and inspire sustainable living. We’ll have guest speakers\, films and discussions and together we’ll explore ways we can help reach Scotland’s goal of net zero emissions by 2045. \nRefreshments will be provided. \n\nBooking Information\nThe event is free\, but booking is required as spaces are limited. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk

SUMMARY:Introduction to Sourdough Baking (2 sessions)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is an introduction to baking with wild yeast to create sourdough bread and baking. \nPlease note the workshop is made up of 2 sessions (participants should attend both): \nThursday 12th September\, 6.30pm – 8pm – Session 1 – this is all about getting started with sourdough baking. We’ll discuss the fundamentals of baking with wild yeasts\, we’ll look at the methods of creating a sourdough starter and how to look after it. We’ll then make a starter for you to take home and look after so that you can bring it to the next session. \nSaturday 21st September\, 10am – 3pm – Session 2 – this is a practical\, hands-on session when we’ll bake with sourdough starters. You’ll use your own starter to create a sourdough loaf and also some sourdough baking. Sourdough making is a slow process to allow the natural yeasts to work so we’ll have plenty of time to discuss and ask questions. \nOn our fun and informative workshop you’ll learn some basic principles that you can then use at home to get started with sourdough baking. We’ll look at the ingredients and techniques – and how to fit sourdough bread making into your life using a weekly schedule. You’ll leave inspired and ready to start baking regularly. \nThe course is suitable for beginners ((we’ll be using wheat flour – this workshop is not suitable for anyone with a gluten allergy). Please bring a bag and a box to take home your creations from session 2. \nThere is disabled parking on site and The Lang Spoon Community Kitchen is wheelchair and mobility friendly. \nBooking information\nBooking is required as spaces are limited. \nFull price: £60 ( for the two sessions in total) \nGreener Kirkcaldy members/volunteers: £54.00 \nConcessions*: £48 \n*Students (full time)\, Senior Citizens (65+)\, eligible benefits (Income Support\, Working Tax Credit\, Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance\, Income based Employment and Support Allowance\, Housing Benefit and Universal Credit). SUMMARY:May Fuel Efficient Driver Training
DESCRIPTION:No matter how well or efficiently you think you drive\, you can always pick up some useful tips in our FREE Fuel Efficient Driver Training (FEDT). Car technology and road infrastructure have changed\, so our training can help you drive more efficiently. In our last campaign we helped almost 100 people in our community save an average of 15% on their fuel consumption. \nFEDT is an informal training session that lasts 50 minutes and takes place with an Approved Trainer. Here is what our trainer James Coutts has to say about the course: “The first thing I always say is that it’s not a driving test (you’re not going to get a telling-off for crossing your hands on the steering wheel and you won’t be asked to perform an emergency stop!). The aim is to make the training very relaxed and enjoyable and the benefits are endless: participants can gain substantial savings by reducing fuel; less pollution from your car thus protecting the environment; and less wear and tear on tyres and brakes etc.” \nThe trainer provides the car\, fuel and insurance. You’ll complete a circuit twice\, once before training and again after training. Miles per gallon is measured for both circuits so you can work out how much you can save. \nPlease note – you must bring your valid driving license with you or you won’t be able to do the training. \n  \nBooking Information\n\nThis event is free \, but booking is required. If you are having trouble booking contact us on 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.
