SUMMARY:Collage book making workshop - Kirkcaldy past\, present\, future
DESCRIPTION:Join us as part of a series of workshops the Lang Toun Partners are hosting to gather the views and ideas of local people in creative ways for Kirkcaldy’s bid for UK Town of Culture 2028. \nThis workshop is led by local artist Vanessa Gibson and uses drawing\, collage\, writing and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy through time. Learn more about Vanessa and her work at vanessagibson.co.uk \nWe also invite you to join our Community Meal before the event at 5pm. If you would like to join us\, there will be a question in the booking form where you can let us know. \nAbout the workshop\nParticipants will collaborate to create a community artist storybook responding to the town’s past\, present\, and imagined future\, working intuitively rather than technically. The focus is on mark-making\, colour\, textures\, and personal responses. \nThe workshop will include writing/sketching exercises using local images\, maps\, and words to introduce the theme of time and place. We’ll use bold mark-making\, words and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy as it is now. We’ll then move on to imagine your own future Kirkcaldy. \nThe aim is for each participant to produce a couple of small artworks\, which will contribute to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. The artworks will be laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nOutcome\nEach participant produces at least three artworks\, gaining confidence in expressive art-making and self expression while contributing to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. Works are laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is recommended; you can also drop in on the day if you prefer. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. SUMMARY:REHIS - Elementary Food Hygiene
DESCRIPTION:Cost: £50 (£45 community / third sector organisation) \nThe REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate is a practical course designed to give food handlers a basic knowledge and understanding of the causes of food poisoning\, measures for prevention and the legal aspects of food hygiene in Scotland. \nAnyone working directly with food as a food handler is required to be trained in food hygiene. A food handler is anyone that comes into contact with food directly or indirectly \nThe course will cover: \n• An introduction to food hygiene \n• Bacteria and their characteristics \n• Food poisoning and its prevention \n• Personal hygiene and food handling \n• The working environment \n• Food pests and how to control them \n• Effective cleaning practices \n• HACCP and food legislation \nThis course will give you the knowledge and skills to work with and comply with food safety and hygiene practices. It is relevant to anyone working or intending to work in hospitality and catering; the care sector; food retailing and food processing; and anyone who is interested in food hygiene. It is also relevant to anyone working or volunteering with food in community projects: foodbanks; food redistribution projects such as larders and pantries; community shops; cooking skills classes and much more. \nThe course is 7 hours in total and includes 30 minutes for a multiple-choice test to achieve the certificate and a 30 minute lunch break. The certificate is awarded by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland known as REHIS. Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity and development trust working locally to combat the climate emergency\, tackle fuel poverty and food insecurity\, and bring people together for a more sustainable Kirkcaldy. We are an accredited REHIS training centre. Our courses are delivered by experienced and accredited tutors. \nBooking Information\nBooking is required for this course. We prefer that you book online. SUMMARY:REHIS - Elementary Food Hygiene
DESCRIPTION:Cost: £50 (£45 community / third sector organisation) \nThe REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate is a practical course designed to give food handlers a basic knowledge and understanding of the causes of food poisoning\, measures for prevention and the legal aspects of food hygiene in Scotland. \nAnyone working directly with food as a food handler is required to be trained in food hygiene. A food handler is anyone that comes into contact with food directly or indirectly \nThe course will cover: \n• An introduction to food hygiene \n• Bacteria and their characteristics \n• Food poisoning and its prevention \n• Personal hygiene and food handling \n• The working environment \n• Food pests and how to control them \n• Effective cleaning practices \n• HACCP and food legislation \nThis course will give you the knowledge and skills to work with and comply with food safety and hygiene practices. It is relevant to anyone working or intending to work in hospitality and catering; the care sector; food retailing and food processing; and anyone who is interested in food hygiene. It is also relevant to anyone working or volunteering with food in community projects: foodbanks; food redistribution projects such as larders and pantries; community shops; cooking skills classes and much more. \nThe course is 7 hours in total and includes 30 minutes for a multiple-choice test to achieve the certificate and a 30 minute lunch break. The certificate is awarded by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland known as REHIS. Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity and development trust working locally to combat the climate emergency\, tackle fuel poverty and food insecurity\, and bring people together for a more sustainable Kirkcaldy. We are an accredited REHIS training centre. Our courses are delivered by experienced and accredited tutors. \nBooking Information\nBooking is required for this course. We prefer that you book online. SUMMARY:REHIS - Elementary Food Hygiene
DESCRIPTION:Cost: £50 (£45 community / third sector organisation) \nThe REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate is a practical course designed to give food handlers a basic knowledge and understanding of the causes of food poisoning\, measures for prevention and the legal aspects of food hygiene in Scotland. \nAnyone working directly with food as a food handler is required to be trained in food hygiene. A food handler is anyone that comes into contact with food directly or indirectly \nThe course will cover: \n• An introduction to food hygiene \n• Bacteria and their characteristics \n• Food poisoning and its prevention \n• Personal hygiene and food handling \n• The working environment \n• Food pests and how to control them \n• Effective cleaning practices \n• HACCP and food legislation \nThis course will give you the knowledge and skills to work with and comply with food safety and hygiene practices. It is relevant to anyone working or intending to work in hospitality and catering; the care sector; food retailing and food processing; and anyone who is interested in food hygiene. It is also relevant to anyone working or volunteering with food in community projects: foodbanks; food redistribution projects such as larders and pantries; community shops; cooking skills classes and much more. \nThe course is 7 hours in total and includes 30 minutes for a multiple-choice test to achieve the certificate and a 30 minute lunch break. The certificate is awarded by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland known as REHIS. Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity and development trust working locally to combat the climate emergency\, tackle fuel poverty and food insecurity\, and bring people together for a more sustainable Kirkcaldy. We are an accredited REHIS training centre. Our courses are delivered by experienced and accredited tutors. \nBooking Information\nBooking is required for this course. We prefer that you book online. Together\, we’ll explore how we can bring dignity\, rights and cash-first approaches to life in our communities\, and how these connect with the ambitions of the Food4Fife Strategy and Action Plan (2024–2029). \nThis interactive workshop aims to: \n\nBuild a shared understanding of the right to food in Scotland and Fife\nFacilitate awareness and engagement in rights-based and dignified approaches\nIdentify practical actions and opportunities to advance the right to food movement\nStrengthen networks across Fife and beyond\n\nThis event is for: \n\nCommunity food projects\nAdvice and welfare providers\nLocal authorities\nNHS and health boards\nPolicy-makers and planners\nAnyone working to create a fair\, dignified and sustainable food system in Fife\n\nWhy now?\nThe Scottish Government has confirmed its intention to reintroduce a Human Rights Bill (if re-elected post-2026)\, which would incorporate the right to food into Scots law. \nThe Cash-First: Towards Ending the Need for Food Banks plan sets out a clear direction of travel\, with many projects already shifting towards income-based approaches that uphold dignity. \nLocally\, the Food4Fife plan aims to create a sustainable food culture for a healthy Fife\, focusing on empowering communities and growing food economies. \nThis is a pivotal moment to connect the dots between national policy\, local action\, and community voices. \nBooking information\nThis event is free but booking is required. \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place.
