SUMMARY:Fife Climate Knowhow
DESCRIPTION:Our two-part Fife Climate Knowhow course shares all you need to know about the climate emergency and how it can affect our lives. \nWorkshop 1: Climate Science & Justice – Tuesday 16th June\, 10am–2pm \nWorkshop 2: Climate Action & Conversations – Tuesday 23rd June\, 10am–2pm \nThis two-part programme of workshops in June supports you to: \n\nLearn together about the science behind climate change by taking part in a Climate Fresk collage\nReflect on the local and global impacts of climate change and the importance of climate justice\nFind tangible ways to reduce your carbon emissions and start your own climate action plan\nDiscuss our society’s climate silence and develop tools for talking to people about climate change\n\n“I really enjoyed the collaborative nature of the Climate Fresk. Was good to learn and put that knowledge into context.” Fife Climate Knowhow participant\, February 2026 \nThe course includes presentation-style learning\, as well as plenty of opportunities for group discussions\, and climate related games and activities. We know that directly confronting climate change and its effects can be emotional. We set aside time for personal reflection throughout and encourage you to take additional breaks whenever you need. \nLunch and refreshments will be provided. \nBy booking you confirm that you plan to attend both workshops. \nBecome Carbon Literate!\n“I was surprised to learn all the simple\, everyday ways we can make changes to do ‘our bit’ and reduce our own carbon footprint.” Fife Climate Knowhow participant\, February 2026 \nOur Fife Climate Knowhow course meets the Carbon Literacy Project Standard. By attending the two workshops and completing a short form you can become certified as Carbon Literate. Being Carbon Literate means gaining the knowledge\, confidence\, and practical skills to reduce your own carbon footprint\, and inspiring and influencing others to do the same. There is no cost to you if you wish to become Carbon Literate\, and we can support you through the short process. \nWho Should Attend?\nPolling shows the majority of Scots are concerned about climate change and are aware of its risks to Scotland. However\, it can be difficult to identify what we can do as individuals\, know where to find trustworthy information\, or the support needed to act. That’s where the Fife Climate Knowhow course comes in! \nThis course is for everyone living\, studying or working in Fife. You don’t need any prior knowledge or understanding of climate change. Everyone who attends will learn something new\, both from the course itself and through group discussions with other participants. \nPlease let us know of any support you may need to be able to take part in this course. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nBy booking you confirm you plan to attend both sessions.  \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility Information\nAn understanding of English is required to complete the course. Support can be provided on request. \nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. There is a ramp into the building and level access throughout. There is also an accessible toilet. Learn more about how to get to us and the accessibility of the building. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Soil health and compost workshop with Dr. Liz Lakin
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered why some plants grow well in one part of your garden but not in others\, or why your friend in a different part of Fife can grow blueberries without any problem and you really can’t? \nHere’s your chance to find out! Success in your garden is often down to working effectively with what you have\, which means knowing about your soil and how to work with it. \nIn this climate friendly garden workshop\, we explore the role of soil in any productive garden and highlight the importance of testing your soil before adjusting nutrient levels. \nYou will be introduced to different types of soil and given an opportunity to test your own\, thereby assessing its pH and nutrient value. Healthy soils play an important role in slowing climate change by storing carbon\, which is the main component of organic matter. \nHealthy plants need healthy soils that are abundant with life. A compost-rich soil has an improved structure\, absorbing\, retaining and draining water as needed. Adding compost boosts nutrients and feeds the organisms living in the soil. \nDuring the workshop we explore composting from the very basics through to a range of ways of achieving sustainable compost that is rich in organic matter and avoids the use of peat and peat-based products. \nThe workshop will be led by Dr. Liz Lakin and is made possible through a grant from the Fife Climate Hub Seed and Development fund. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. SUMMARY:Collage book making workshop - Kirkcaldy past\, present\, future
DESCRIPTION:Join us as part of a series of workshops the Lang Toun Partners are hosting to gather the views and ideas of local people in creative ways for Kirkcaldy’s bid for UK Town of Culture 2028. \nThis workshop is led by local artist Vanessa Gibson and uses drawing\, collage\, writing and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy through time. Learn more about Vanessa and her work at vanessagibson.co.uk \nWe also invite you to join our Community Meal before the event at 5pm. If you would like to join us\, there will be a question in the booking form where you can let us know. \nAbout the workshop\nParticipants will collaborate to create a community artist storybook responding to the town’s past\, present\, and imagined future\, working intuitively rather than technically. The focus is on mark-making\, colour\, textures\, and personal responses. \nThe workshop will include writing/sketching exercises using local images\, maps\, and words to introduce the theme of time and place. We’ll use bold mark-making\, words and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy as it is now. We’ll then move on to imagine your own future Kirkcaldy. \nThe aim is for each participant to produce a couple of small artworks\, which will contribute to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. The artworks will be laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nOutcome\nEach participant produces at least three artworks\, gaining confidence in expressive art-making and self expression while contributing to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. Works are laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is recommended; you can also drop in on the day if you prefer. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. If you plan to drop in on the day but would still like to book in for the 5pm sitting at our Community Meal at 5pm please call 01592 858 458 during our office hours to book. \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. There is a ramp into the building and level access throughout. There is also an accessible toilet. Learn more about how to get to us and the accessibility of the building. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Big spring plant and seed swap
DESCRIPTION:Come and swap your seedlings with other gardeners! \nWe’ve all been there – sow a whole packet of tomato seeds and end up with 20 plants of the same variety and you only have space to plant 5 of them! \nWhy not bring down your spare plants and swap them with other gardeners\, to end up with more variety and less plants going to waste. \nThis could be fruit\, veg\, edible\, ornamental or houseplants to tiny seedlings or big established plants. Even if you don’t have anything to swap but would like to take home some plants\, we will be growing some extras to give away with the option of giving a donation to cover costs. Feel free to bring in any seeds you have saved from your garden\, or packets you won’t get round to sowing. \nOn the day\, we will set out plants by type\, aiming to have everything to be swapped laid out by 7pm; and then have 10 minutes of viewing before the swapping begins! We recommend pots rather than trays\, even eggboxes or yoghurt pots can work. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. SUMMARY:Together we cycle - Film screening and panel
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of the Together we cycle\, a film looking at the development of cycling culture and infrastructure in the Netherlands and why against all odds\, Dutch people kept on cycling. \nThe screening will be followed by a panel discussion looking at cycling and Fife\, what is happening to improve cycle infrastructure and what we hope can be achieved in the future. \nPanelists include Councillor Jane Ann Liston and Lucy Jackson\, Sustainability Co-ordinator at Fife College.  \nAbout the film\n\nTogether we cycle – A film by Nieuw & Verbeterd \nThe film Together we cycle investigates the critical events that led to the revival of the Dutch cycling culture. Many people think that cycling in the Netherlands is a natural phenomenon. However\, until the 1970s the development of mobility in the Netherlands followed trends across the globe. The bicycle had had its day\, and the future belonged to the car. The only thing that had to be done was to adapt cities to the influx of cars. \nThen Dutch society took a different turn. Against all odds\, people kept on cycling. \nThere is no easy answer to the question why this happened in the Netherlands. There are many factors\, events and circumstances that worked together\, both socially and policy-wise. In Together we cycle\, key players tell the story of the bumpy road which led to the current state. Where cycling is an obvious choice for most citizens. \nPanel\nLucy Jackson\, Sustainability Co-ordinator\, Fife College\n \nHi\, my name is Lucy. Part of my role involves addressing the barriers that students and staff face commuting to campus\, and promoting/encourage sustainable transport modes. My role actually started off with the Students Association where I was on a one year placement funded by Smarter Choices Smarter Places. I wrote a Transport Strategy and I also managed an e-bike hire scheme where students can borrow an electric bike for £3/week. \nPersonally\, I have always loved cycling as I like to feel the fresh air as I travel at speed\, favourite places include Tentsmuir Forest. The reason why I am passionate about cycling and encouraging others to do the same is because I know how great I feel being on a bike and I believe it is great for mental health and a great way to reduce your environmental impact!  \nCouncillor Jane Ann Liston\nI use the bike for almost all council appointments\, mostly within St Andrews but sometimes all the way to Cupar or to Leuchars for the train and then again from Markinch to Glenrothes. \nWhile cycling for me is a means of transport from A to B rather than a leisure activity\, I do like cycling on the Isle of Arran; in fact\, it was to free myself from the structures of the very limited bus timetable on the island that made me persevere and overcome balance problems in my early 40s to be able to cycle. It’s also a good way to get between Queen Street and Central stations in Glasgow. \nCycling is environmentally friendly and also a way of taking exercise without really trying and which is not redolent of school PE lessons; shortly after I started riding I found I had inadvertently dropped a dress size which was an added bonus. \nWhat is important about providing better infrastructure is that it helps make cycling the easy option\, and that leads more people to choose that transport option. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. All except young Mumble\, who was born to dance… tap dance. Such un-penguin-like behaviour eventually gets Mumble kicked out of Emperor Land and into the big\, cold world. \nJoined by his Adelie Amigos and an all-knowing rockhopper penguin named Lovelace\, Mumble embarks on an epic journey and ultimately proves that by being true to yourself\, you can make all the difference in the world! \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. SUMMARY:Love and hope - Community Land Festival activities
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate five years of community ownership of our building at East Fergus Place we are holding two activities in our Welcome Area this October. This drop-in event is one of a series of events taking place across Scotland in October as part of the Community Land Festival\, which celebrates community landowners (communities that own land or buildings) and their achievements. \nThe first activity invites you to write and post a letter to our community building\, sharing what our community building means to you\, the difference it’s made to the community\, and why you love it! All you have to do is follow the template and fill in the gaps. \nWith the second activity\, we would love for you to share your hopes for the next 100 years and help us build a wall of hope and a picture of what we want Scotland to look like in a century. \nThis is a chance to let us know your feelings about Greener Kirkcaldy. Your thoughts\, hopes and ideas are important to us and help us plan future projects. We look forward to bringing everyone’s thoughts together and sharing them within our team when planning new projects and in a blog on our website later this year. We will also discuss your ideas and hopes for the future of Greener Kirkcaldy and Kirkcaldy as a whole at our Annual Gathering and AGM. \nAll you need to do to take part in our ‘Love and Hope’ activities is pop into Greener Kirkcaldy during our opening hours\, any day between Monday 21st October and Friday 1st November. This event is free to attend – donations are welcome. \nDirections and opening hours. \nCan’t make it in? You can also take part in the letter writing activity online throughout the Community Land Festival\, which runs from 18th October to 3rd November.
