SUMMARY:Tree Detectives Walk: Discovering Kirkcaldy’s Urban Trees
DESCRIPTION:Ever wanted to be a Citizen Scientist? \nThis walk gives you an opportunity to learn about tree ID\, and help build a picture of Fife’s urban trees. We’ll use the ‘Fife Tree Canopy Survey’ app to record the trees we find\, noting their species\, condition and size. \nTrees have so many benefits to our world\, from boosting our wellbeing to helping tackle the climate emergency by providing shade and capturing carbon. The more we know about Fife’s trees\, the better we can protect and enhance them. \nWe’ll start by learning to survey some street trees\, then head to Beveridge Park with its beautiful mix of native and ornamental trees \nThe 2 mile walk will take up to 2 hours\, and be on a variety of surfaces: tarmac\, pavement\, park paths and mown grass. \nNo prior knowledge of tree ID or the survey is necessary\, and all necessary equipment will be provided. \nNo dogs on this walk\, please. \nThis event is being run in partnership with Fife Coast and Countryside Trust. \nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this walk is weather-dependent. In the event of forecast adverse weather\, Greener Kirkcaldy staff will decide whether to go ahead with the walk the day before. We will contact attendees via phone and email if the walk cannot go ahead. \nParticipants should be able to walk 2 miles at a leisurely pace. The route is on tarmac\, pavements\, park paths and mown grass. Mostly level\, parts may be muddy. \nSuitable for all ages but children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease wear appropriate clothes for the weather. \nNo dogs please. \nIf you want to know more specific information about the route please contact us. You can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk. \nBooking Instructions\nThe event is free but booking is required. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility information\nSuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs\, but please advise us of accessibility needs on booking. \nAccessible parking is available at the Town House. \n  \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Folklore Round the Firepit with Sarah Wedderburn-Ogilvy
DESCRIPTION:Stories offer us another way of seeing the world: one in which trees have stories of their own\, the seas have tempers\, and humans aren’t always in charge. \nJoin Scottish storyteller Sarah Wedderburn-Ogilvy round our firepit for an exploration of our relationship with the natural world through folklore and traditional tales. Expect wonder\, mischief and moments of reflection as we consider what it means to belong to the living world around us\, and the importance of rest and renewal for those working to protect it. \nThis event has been made possible due to the Scottish International Storytelling Festival’s Big Scottish Story Ripple initiative. The Scottish International Storytelling Festival (SISF) is organised by Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland (TRACS) and the Big Scottish Story Ripple is supported by The Scottish Storytelling Forum. \nThis event will take place around a firepit in our garden at East Fergus Place. We will move indoors to the Community Space at East Fergus Place if there is adverse weather. \nAbout Sarah Wedderburn-Ogilvy\nSarah Wedderburn-Ogilvy is a Scottish oral storyteller and participatory artist whose work draws on traditional tales\, folklore and the power of shared storytelling. With a love of the strange\, the playful and the deeply human\, she invites audiences to discover new perspectives on themselves and the world around them. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. There is a ramp into the building and level access throughout. There is also an accessible toilet. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Walk
DESCRIPTION:Starting at the ‘Heart’ of Kirkcaldy on the Esplanade\, we will walk along the beach as the sun rises on 2026’s shortest day. Weather permitting\, we’ll get views of the sun rising above the sea on the day of the Winter Solstice. Take a bit of quiet time away from the Festive preparations to enjoy the beauty of the beach and the sounds of waves and seabirds. At Seafield\, we’ll have a hot drink\, then walkers may return together along the Esplanade to our starting point\, or continue on the coast path independently. \nParticipants should be able to walk 2-3 miles at a leisurely pace. The route is mostly flat\, on pavement\, path and sand. May be wet sand / rocky in places\, and some areas of shallow water on the beach but diversions will be possible for those without suitable footwear. \nChildren must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that dogs are not permitted on this walk. Contact us if you would like any further information. \nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this event is weather-dependent.
