SUMMARY:Meat Free Mexican Cooking (Postponed)
DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the end of April. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nAs part of our regular workshops for cooks interested in exploring how to switch from meat and poultry in their diet to plant-based ingredients more often\, this class will focus on Mexican food. \nThe Mayan and Aztec cultures have had maize\, beans and squashes at the heart of their diet for thousands of years (known as the three sisters). Pulses are also very sustainable and recognised as a “super food” so we will look at ways of using different beans and pulses in our diets. The course is hands-on and all food prepared at the workshop can be easily recreated at home for family or friends to dig into. On the menu there will be: \n\nBean and tortilla soup\nButternut squash tacos and enchiladas\nChimichurri and salsa\n\n  \nBooking information\nBooking is required as spaces are limited. \nFull price: £40 \nNEW OFFER ‘Bring a Friend’ (2 people sharing a workstation): £60 \nGreener Kirkcaldy members/volunteers: 10% discount \nConcessions*: 20% discount \n*Students (full time)\, Senior Citizens (65+)\, eligible benefits (Income Support\, Working Tax Credit\, Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance\, Income based Employment and Support Allowance\, Housing Benefit and Universal Credit). Proof of eligibility may be requested when booking\, or on arrival at event. \nIf you wish to book using a Greener Kirkcaldy Gift Voucher\, please call us on 01592 858458.If you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Community Garden Open Afternoon – Lettuce and Salad (Postponed)
DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the end of April. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nHave you started growing for the year ahead or is it something you would like to try? Would you like some advice and inspiration? Then visit our Community Garden and Orchard on Saturday afternoon. \nCome along for a look around\, meet the garden volunteers and we’ll give you some ideas and inspiration to take back home. \nThis month we will be starting off our salad seeds. There’s no need to buy bags of salad when you can grow your own easily at home. Salad leaves grow well in pots only needing a small space\, if you grow your own you can pick your favourite leaves fresh throughout the summer. \nWe’ll give you some tips and you can get some practice by sowing various types of seeds. \nOur gardening staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer advice and help. No experience necessary. \nRefreshments will be available. \nThis event is free and no booking is necessary.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Seasonal Seaweed (Postponed)
DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the end of April. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nVisit Scotland is celebrating a year of Coasts and Waters this 2020 with a program of exciting events and performances planned nationwide. We have been inspired to celebrate our own coastline and have asked professional seaweed harvester\, Jayson\, of East Neuk Seaweed to host a workshop teaching us all about the many uses of seaweed in the garden! \nJoin us for a walk to Dysart beach where we will learn how to identify local\, seasonal and edible seaweeds. Jayson will be showing us how to keep safe when harvesting seaweed and how to use sustainable harvesting techniques in order to protect this natural resource. We’ll also discuss tidal zones and learn when to harvest different seaweeds. \nWe will then take some seaweed back to the cabin where we will discuss the many ways you can utilise this abundant natural resource in your gardens. \nThis is a great opportunity to take part in a fun\, exciting and informative morning outdoors! The workshop is suitable for over 16s only and will involve some physical activity over potentially rocky terrain.
