SUMMARY:Climate Action for All: Finding links for your community
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop is designed for Fife-based community groups and community leaders who are not already engaging their communities on climate action\, but who would like to start. We will discuss the impacts of climate change on Fifers\, the action your communities could take and the benefits of doing so\, and will share examples of what is already happening around Fife.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe also want to hear from you: \n\nWhat does your community care about and what are its concerns?\nWhat is your vision for the future for your community?\nWhat resources do you need to help you get there?\n\nThe Climate Action Fife team will use the information to create support materials and (co)design-workshops and activities to help you engage your peers. \nAnd if you are reading this and thinking “climate change – that’s not for me”\, or “that’s not something we talk about” then perhaps you are exactly the person we want to speak to! Climate change impacts us all\, so why not come and find out what your community could be doing to take action. \nYou do not have to know anything about climate change to take part. These workshops are not about knowing the answers\, but rather about getting a conversation going\, discovering answers and working together to make Fife a greener and fairer place to live. \n \nBooking Information \nThe event is free but booking is required as places are limited. \nThe event will take place online -we’ll send out a joining Zoom link the day before the event. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email craig@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk. \nJoin us online on Tuesday 8th March 2022 at 6.30pm

SUMMARY:Pickling and Fermenting
DESCRIPTION:In this class you will create your own flavour combinations as you learn effective and safe methods for pickling and fermenting foods.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUsed to preserve food for long journeys\, especially by sea\, these techniques can be traced back to ancient times (approx. 2500BC). With interests in seasonal cooking on the increase*\, methods such as these have grown in popularity. \n• Piccalilli (mustard pickle from Asia) \nThis homemade version is very versatile and much different to shop bought. You will add and control your own complex flavours to suit your taste. \n• Kimchi (a tangy\, fermented sauce) \nThis popular Korean staple is a good starting point to learn about fermentation. As it matures the flavours develop to give it a real spicy kick. \n• Beetroot Chutney (an Indian sauce) \nChutneys are a great way to use up many things that you have in abundance\, and an exciting way to experiment with different flavours. Getting the balance of sweet and sour is the key. \n  \nIn the class we will have a tasting session letting you taste different pickles and fermented products. Jars will be provided and you are welcome to bring along your own too. \n*Source – publicsectorcatering.co.uk \n  \nThis is a hands-on cooking class. All dishes made can be taken away and enjoyed at home\, and are suitable for a plant-based diet. \nThe workshop will be led by our Community Chef Iain McLellan\, a skilled and talented Head Chef with over 20 years cooking experience. Iain is passionate about world cuisines and sharing his love of flavour combinations. Some cooking skills are required to enjoy this workshop i.e. basic knife skills. Please bring some containers to take home your food. If you have any dietary requirements or allergies\, please let us know when you are booking. \nBooking Details\nGeneral Admission: £35 \nFriends / couples*: £55 \nGreener Kirkcaldy members/volunteers: £31.50 \nConcessions**:£28 \n*Two people enjoy the cooking experience together using the same ingredients. \n**Students (full time)\, Senior Citizens (65+)\, eligible benefits (Income Support\, Working Tax Credit\, Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance\, Income based Employment and Support Allowance\, Housing Benefit and Universal Credit). [Proof of eligibility may be requested when booking\, or on arrival at event.] \n\n\nAccessibility\nThere is Disabled parking available outside 8 East Fergus Place. We have a ramp into the building and level access throughout. There is also a disabled bathroom. SUMMARY:Film screening: Not Without Us
DESCRIPTION:Join the Fife Communities Climate Action Network for an in-person screening of the Film Not Without Us. The film shares the experiences of seven grassroots campaigners at COP21. \nNot Without Us is a a rousing documentary immersing viewers in the moving\, personal journeys of seven grassroots campaigners from around the world. They attempt to harness the only force that can prevent catastrophic climate change: The will of the people. \nFollowing the film we will facilitate a discussion on the issues raised and there will be a chance to network with fellow FCCAN members. \nYou don’t have to be a member of FCCAN to attend\, but membership is free and open to any organisation or group in Fife already taking action\, or wishing to take action\, on climate change. The network aims to empower and enable communities to create a low carbon future\, and promote local resilience and well-being. \nThe event will take place at Greener Kirkcaldy’s community building in the heart of Kirkcaldy at 8 East Fergus Place. The building is fully accessible and just a short walk from the bus and railway stations. Car parking on-site is limited to Blue Badge holders only. There is free parking available at Kirkcaldy Train Station. \nWe deliver this event in partnership with Take One Action’s What the COP? Initiative. The initiative helps groups across Scotland explore climate issues in the lead-up to the UN Climate Conference being hosted in Glasgow in November.
