SUMMARY:Community Garden Open Days
DESCRIPTION:Find out about our community garden and orchard at our monthly Community Garden Open Day. \nOpen Day\nIf you interested in learning more about local gardening and growing food or want to come along for a walk through the garden and orchard for ideas\, inspiration and to enjoy the outdoors\, come along to our monthly open days. No need to book\, just drop in! \nOur gardeners and volunteers will be on site to show you around and answer any questions. We will be open one day each month throughout the growing season to show you what goes on. If you are interested in getting more involved we can share our events\, workshops and volunteering opportunities. \nAll ages and abilities welcome and please wear suitable outdoor clothing. Our open days are free to attend. \nHow to get there\nThe gates to the garden are located at the Dysart end of Ravenscraig park; on the corner of Dysart Road and West Quality Street. You will see the opening into Ravenscraig Park. Just next to this are two green metal gates beside a red brick wall and a sign ‘Ravenscraig Walled Garden’ – that is the entrance to our garden. Go through the green gates and follow the path around to your right past the car park. Keep to the right and you will see a big space with lots of allotments. If you look to the left\, you will see a green ‘cabin’ with a polytunnel and raised beds. That is our base.

SUMMARY:Climate Action for All: Finding links for your community
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop is designed for Fife-based community groups and community leaders who are not already engaging their communities on climate action\, but who would like to start. We will discuss the impacts of climate change on Fifers\, the action your communities could take and the benefits of doing so\, and will share examples of what is already happening around Fife.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe also want to hear from you: \n\nWhat does your community care about and what are its concerns?\nWhat is your vision for the future for your community?\nWhat resources do you need to help you get there?\n\nThe Climate Action Fife team will use the information to create support materials and (co)design-workshops and activities to help you engage your peers. \nAnd if you are reading this and thinking “climate change – that’s not for me”\, or “that’s not something we talk about” then perhaps you are exactly the person we want to speak to! Climate change impacts us all\, so why not come and find out what your community could be doing to take action. \nYou do not have to know anything about climate change to take part. These workshops are not about knowing the answers\, but rather about getting a conversation going\, discovering answers and working together to make Fife a greener and fairer place to live. \n \nBooking Information \nThe event is free but booking is required as places are limited. \nThe event will take place online -we’ll send out a joining Zoom link the day before the event. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email craig@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk. \nJoin us online on Tuesday 8th March 2022 at 6.30pm

SUMMARY:Pickling and Fermenting
DESCRIPTION:In this class you will create your own flavour combinations as you learn effective and safe methods for pickling and fermenting foods.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUsed to preserve food for long journeys\, especially by sea\, these techniques can be traced back to ancient times (approx. 2500BC). With interests in seasonal cooking on the increase*\, methods such as these have grown in popularity. \n• Piccalilli (mustard pickle from Asia) \nThis homemade version is very versatile and much different to shop bought. You will add and control your own complex flavours to suit your taste. \n• Kimchi (a tangy\, fermented sauce) \nThis popular Korean staple is a good starting point to learn about fermentation. As it matures the flavours develop to give it a real spicy kick. \n• Beetroot Chutney (an Indian sauce) \nChutneys are a great way to use up many things that you have in abundance\, and an exciting way to experiment with different flavours. Getting the balance of sweet and sour is the key. \n  \nIn the class we will have a tasting session letting you taste different pickles and fermented products. Jars will be provided and you are welcome to bring along your own too. \n*Source – publicsectorcatering.co.uk \n  \nThis is a hands-on cooking class. All dishes made can be taken away and enjoyed at home\, and are suitable for a plant-based diet. \nThe workshop will be led by our Community Chef Iain McLellan\, a skilled and talented Head Chef with over 20 years cooking experience.
